The Eva Copper Mine (ECM) located in North West Queensland is a significant and strategically important project for Harmony Gold Mining Company Pty Ltd. The greenfield project site is located approximately 75km north-west of Cloncurry.
The Project will be the largest mining operation in North West Queensland with a minimum mine life of 15 years, and will involve mining multiple open cut pits providing copper bearing ore to a concentrator. The mine site will include development of tailings storage facilities, waste rock dumps, power generation and an accommodation village.
Harmony is the largest gold producer, by volume, in South Africa owning and operating numerous mining and tailings retreatment operations. Harmony also owns and operates the Hidden Valley Mine in Papua New Guinea including holding 50% (Joint Venture with Newmont) in the Tier 1 Wafi-Golpu copper-gold project. These Papua New Guinea assets together with the Eva Copper Mine Project are supported by the Harmony South East Asia corporate office located in Milton, Brisbane.
Harmony is currently preparing to progress the Execute Phase of the Eva Copper Mine Project in support of achieving near term 1st production and are seeking highly motivated and experienced people to join our growing project delivery and operations teams. The Execution Phase will begin July 2024 with commencement of front-end engineering and design, and in parallel preliminary site works will also be progressed in support of full project execution post final investment decision. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of defining, building and operating a major mining operation that will offer employment opportunities across the project life cycle, from project definition and delivery into operations.
We currently have several vacancies for Geologists to join our team. Core responsibilities include developing orebody knowledge in support of the Eva Copper Mine development, and the identification and generation of viable exploration drilling prospects resulting in the discovery of new reserves.
Responsibilities include:
Commitment to safe operating practices and demonstrated duty of care.
Ensuring our activities are environmentally and socially compliant.
Making suggestions and technical planning contributions to assist in finding and mining copper.
Monitoring drilling programs.
Monitoring of geophysical and geochemical surveys.
Logging of drill core and cuttings.
Exploration field work including geological mapping and sampling.
Geological interpretation of drilling information.
3D modelling of geology and mineralization.
Drill target identification and evaluation, making recommendations for follow-up.
Technical and statutory reporting.
What you will bring to Harmony:
Bachelor's Degree or tertiary qualification in Geology.
Ideally, up to 5 years in a similar role, although recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
Drilling and exploration program supervision.
Proficiency in QGIS, Micromine, Leapfrog.
Data analysis skills.
Presentation and reporting skills are essential.
Open C class manual drivers licence.
Willing and able to acquire S123 or equivalent qualification.
Ability to pass full medical (including Drug & Alcohol testing).
Location
These roles will be DIDO from local communities or FIFO from Brisbane or Townsville to our sites in Cloncurry, with local candidates highly regarded. Our roster is 8 days on, 6 days off.
