The team is currently seeking a Genetics Counsellor on a part-time assignment.The Genetics Counsellor provides comprehensive genetic counselling services to outpatients and inpatients of Nepean Hospital with supervision from a clinical geneticist as part of a team based in the Department of Clinical Genetics at Nepean Hospital. The successful candidate will maintain and develop genetic counselling input into other services such as Obstetrics and the Perinatal Ultrasound Unit at Nepean Hospital and identify and target specific areas of service relevant to the population of NBMLHD.In this position, you will provide formal teaching and in-service opportunities to other hospital clinical staff and students to increase their awareness and understanding of the issues raised by genetic medicine, the impact on individuals and families, and how to incorporate this knowledge into patient care. At least 3 years clinical experience as a genetic counsellor is required for Level 2 appointment.Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, and well developed letter writing skills.Demonstrated computer literacy with experience with MS office, databases, presentations and pedigree drawing software.Demonstrated ability to work both autonomously and within a multidisciplinary setting and to organise individual workloads to meet deadlines, commitments and standards of performance.A sound understanding of issues related to privacy, confidentiality and ethics.Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and commitment to working towards Part 2 accreditation as a Genetic Counsellor by the Human Genetic Society of Australasia.
