The role: Fulfil several targeted activities to improve the delivery of general surgical services to patients at the Launceston General Hospital (LGH) and to assist in the coordination and training of Surgical Registrars and Resident Medical Officers (RMOs). The role will involve a mix of the following objectives: The undertaking of approved general surgical outpatient and inpatient services. Participation in the after-hours Registrar/Consultant on-call rosters. Provision of leadership and mentoring for surgical registrars and RMOs in training. Assisting with quality improvement, audit and service improvement within the Department of Surgery. Also dependent upon qualifications and interests of the incumbent, there may be the opportunity to be involved with other teaching and research activities. Within the four broad position objectives described above, the incumbent will be responsible for the day to day management of private and public inpatients and outpatients within the LGH. There may also be a need to periodically participate in the after hours cover at the hospital as determined by the Director of Surgery. Responsible for the day to day management of private and public in patients and outpatients within the allocated site/facility. Provide after hours emergency cover as determined by the relevant work unit. The Team: Broad exposure to General Surgery including operating, emergencies and clinic. The role is well supported clinically with additional teaching and research opportunities. The welcoming community surrounding the hospital consists of natural scenery garnished with wineries, markets and distilleries and entertaining world class outdoor activities. Close contact with consultant staff. Limited evenings and weekends on call. Details of Appointment Fixed Term full time, day worker (with on call) position working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing from 3 February 2025 until 1 February 2026 *notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time and part time vacancies. Senior Career Medical Officer Level 1 - Level 3 - $182,000 - $200,000 per annum + 11% superannuation+ access to salary packaging Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022 Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria: General or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia Holds Australian Fellowship, or an overseas Fellowship, and is employed and credentialed to a fellow position without admitting rights but not employed as a Specialist Medical Practitioner *Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment.
