This job posting isn't available in all website languagesAs the General Manager, you will be responsible for leading national teams in enabling and conducting the prudential supervision of a portfolio of industry-specific institutions.Our current positions have the authority to engage with institutions in the pursuit of APRA's mandate and impose supervisory measures on regulated institutions in line with APRA's supervision framework.You will also take a leadership approach in anticipating, identifying, and addressing strategic industry-specific risks in the pursuit of APRA's mandate and within APRA's supervision framework.The teamYou will be a member of APRA's Senior Leadership Team (SLT) reporting to the Executive Director.
Together with other General Managers, this role has joint accountability for leading and delivering the initiatives in the APRA strategic plan.We have opportunities across our supervision and specialist teams.
Our supervision teams are responsible for providing prudential regulation and risk assessment for a defined group of financial institutions within Australia, including banks, superannuation, and insurance organisations.Whilst the specialist team situated within our supervision is responsible for leading the design and collection of data and information and development of key insights to enable the efficient and effective supervision of entities in the supervision industry.Key responsibilitiesPeople leadership.
Lead a team of professionals to deliver high-quality outcomes, fostering an inclusive environment that creates a sense of belonging and trust and allows people to actively contribute and reach their full potential;Strategic management.
Contribute to the development and implementation of business plans for the Division to ensure they support APRA's strategic, business, and operational objectives and priorities;Stakeholder management.
Build trusted and constructive relationships with key stakeholders across APRA to understand requirements, identify issues early, and deliver high-value outcomes;Business/operational management.
Champion the APRA mission and values and translate that into the team's operational approach that is risk-based and outcomes-focused.
Oversee APRA's workforce capacity and capability.
Drive operational effectiveness and simplification in the delivery of the organisation's ongoing business and change initiatives;Critical thinking and judgement.
Lead the identification of risk in complex, uncertain, and volatile situations, developing solutions by applying sound judgement, and thinking broadly and holistically about the problems to be solved.
Ability to take a whole-of-system perspective and apply critical thinking in ambiguity.Quality supervision outcomes.
Continually monitor the supervisory activities conducted by the teams to ensure the focus on complying with APRA's supervision framework, approach, and systems;Financial management and resourcing.
Manage the operation of the function within agreed budgetary constraints and devise resourcing strategies to address evolving needs.
Ensure appropriate workforce management to create alignment across the enterprise and minimise duplication.About youExtensive experience in the Financial Services sector in a senior leadership capacity, with sound understanding of the principles of prudential regulation and financial sector risks.
Experience in either Superannuation, Banking, Life, and/or Private Health Insurance is preferred;Demonstrated ability to identify strategic issues and develop and implement appropriate solutions;Experience in managing a complex and wide-ranging portfolio of programs and projects;Ability to engage and negotiate with senior executives in supervised organisations to foster and achieve prudent practice;Fosters an inclusive environment that creates a sense of belonging and trust, enables people to actively contribute, and to reach their full potential;Strong personal integrity and an intuitive understanding of what is reasonable and prudent business practice;Adept at leading in the face of uncertainty and facilitates understanding of complex circumstances to gain support and agreement;Up to date with financial market trends and legislative environment practices and situations to identify actual or potential problems in supervised organisations.To work with us, you need to be an Australian citizen with eligibility to gain a Negative Vetting Level 1 Security clearance.About APRAThe Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) places you at the heart of Australia's financial services industry.
