This role focuses on driving safety, productivity, and efficiency across our operational design engineering division.
Project scopes are varied in size and nature but will include Substation design, HV/LV lines design, Network Extensions, BESS projects, and microgrids.
All projects will be design engineering focused, including maintenance, brownfield, and greenfield projects.To be successful in this role, your experience will include high-level management and the effective delivery of multidisciplinary technical functions such as Electrical Engineering, Lines, SCADA / Instrumentation / Automation, Telecommunications, and Civil works.
Extensive experience in senior leadership and strong technical knowledge in designing and maintaining electricity network assets is essential.The General Manager - Design & Engineering is accountable for providing strategic direction and leadership to a geographically dispersed and diverse workforce.
We are undergoing an operational excellence program, so any incentives around business process improvement, operational excellence, and change are highly desired for this hire.Key accountabilities will include:Provide strategic direction and leadership for the Design and Engineering Group, with an emphasis on safety.Ensure a coordinated delivery approach for the Operations Program of Work in aligning relevant compliant standards, legislation, policies, and procedures.Lead the effective delivery of technical functions including Electrical Engineering (Lines, Substation, Transmission, etc.
), SCADA / Instrumentation & Controls, Civils, and telecommunications.Support the field delivery department, ensuring all design projects are delivered on time and suitable for Construction / Commissioning / Field Teams.Manage and develop support tools and processes to support effective Design delivery across all disciplines.Education required:An Electrical Engineering background is essential for this hire.Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering meeting the qualification requirements of the Washington Accord.Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) OR eligibility to attain RPEQ (Electrical) status.A postgraduate qualification in a related field (Electrical Engineering, Business, or Project Management) is desirable.Knowledge, Skills and Ability:Extensive experience in a senior leadership role demonstrating behaviours in building high-performing multidisciplinary teams during times of transformation, change management, and continuous improvement.Strong technical knowledge of designing, building, maintaining, testing, and commissioning of electricity networks assets across Lines, Substations, and Secondary systems, as well as knowledge of the regulatory, legislative, and standards which apply.Demonstrated ability to synthesise complex information and make commercial recommendations to optimise business performance.Advanced ability to manage the interface and relationship between key service providers and internal and external stakeholders in delivering a large program of work for a complex business.Significant ability to develop relationships internally and externally to EQL, including service providers and industrial partners, to enable representation at various industry forums.Demonstrated knowledge and skills in the adoption of new processes, innovations, and ideas, and actively develops cost reduction, efficiencies, and productivity improvements.Ability to manage the competing demands of routine maintenance, fault and emergency response, and stakeholder demands while driving safe work outcomes within a heavily regulated environment.Strong communication and negotiation skills that enable effective management of key stakeholders across the business to obtain positive results.How to Apply:If you would like to be considered for this hire, please apply below with an up-to-date resume and a cover letter that highlights your suitability.Applications close: 11:00pm on Sunday 26th January 2025.
