The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a General Manager to provide a critical role at Barwon Prison.
About the Business Unit Corrections Victoria is a business unit of the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS). Corrections Victoria's vision is 'Safer prisons, safer people, safer communities'. Our mission is to have 'A safer, smarter system with a skilled and supported workforce, that enables people in our care to make better decisions'.
HM Prison Barwon is a maximum-security prison located 6km north-west of Lara, 20km from the centre of Geelong and about 70km from Melbourne. It currently houses up to 416 men in custody, including high security, long term management, protection, and medium security prisoners.
About the Role The General Manager is responsible for creating and sustaining a workforce culture built on solid values, professional excellence, and teamwork. The prison contributes to a safe and just Victorian community in which prisoners are constructively engaged and challenged to promote the best prospects of rehabilitation.
Reporting to the Assistant Commissioner, Custodial Operations, the General Manager leads and manages the delivery of all correctional services to achieve the safe custody, welfare, and rehabilitation of prisoners in accordance with the policies and standards set out by the Commissioner, Corrections Victoria.
Key Responsibilities: Lead correctional services to achieve the safe custody, welfare, and rehabilitation of people in our care.Develop, implement, and manage all aspects of the strategic and day-to-day operations of a prison.Actively lead and manage security principles to promote a safe and secure prison environment.About You To be successful in this role, you will have:
Extensive experience managing people and overseeing daily business activities.Demonstrated ability to analyse the success of whole prison programs and strategies.Knowledge of the Corrections Act 1986 and Corrections Regulations 2019.Computer literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and MS Office applications.Qualifications/Requirements: A qualification in Business Management/Human Resource related discipline or commensurate experience is desirable.A full and current Victorian driver's licence or a minimum P2 driver's licence.How to Apply Please click the Apply button on this advertisement.
