As part of the Senior Leadership Team, this role will contribute to shaping and delivering the Council's strategic vision and drive an organisational culture that delivers Our Wyndham, towards 2040 and high-quality services and outcomes for the community.
Reporting to the Director of Corporate Services, the General Legal Counsel is a newly created leadership position, and will be responsible for proactively and strategically supporting the CEO, Councillors and broader leadership team through thought leadership on legal and risk strategies, as well as the provision of general legal and commercial advice across the operational areas and functions of Council.
This diverse role will include drafting and advising on commercial contracts, employment-related matters, reputational risk, property, administrative law and disputes.
As the Council's inaugural General Counsel, you will have the opportunity to shape and scale a purpose-built, contemporary legal team, in turn educating and increasing the legal acumen of leaders across the organisation.
This critical role will ensure leaders have the commercial tools they need to support the growth of the municipality, now and into the future.
To be considered for the opportunity, we are seeking an experienced legal professional with a current, unrestricted Victorian practising certificate, and significant leadership experience gained across both in-house and private practice environments.
You will have proven experience establishing and leading a high-performing legal team, working collaboratively across a business and advising on a wide range of legal and commercial matters in large, complex service delivery environments.
Your highly developed coaching, leadership and influencing skills will put you in good stead to elevate the reputation and understanding of legal engagement within Council.
