Your opportunity: We're seeking a passionate and collaborative General Counsel to lead our in-house legal team. In this pivotal role, you will drive our legal strategy to achieve Urban Utilities' strategic and operational objectives. You'll provide strategic legal guidance whilst fostering a culture of collaboration that effectively balances business outcomes with legal risk. With your ability to navigate ambiguity, you'll empower business leaders to achieve their goals while supporting a team of talented legal advisors.
Strategic Guidance: Providing legal counsel to the Board, CEO, and executive leadership on regulatory compliance, construction contracts, planning regulations, environmental law, competition law, and labour relations.Legal Operations Oversight: Manage legal operations, legal risk mitigation, and regulatory compliance.Team Leadership: Build and lead a high-performing legal team that fosters collaboration and drives business success.Stakeholder Collaboration: Work with internal and external stakeholders to address legal and regulatory challenges effectively.About you: Experience: Proven 15+ years' experience in a senior legal role, preferably in-house.Strategic Alignment: Ability to align legal strategy with business goals, balancing legal risk and business objectives.Innovative Thinking: Propose innovative legal strategies that support business objectives while ensuring compliance.Qualifications: Hold or be immediately eligible to hold a current practicing certificate and admitted as a legal practitioner in Queensland.Leadership: Excellent leadership skills with a passion for mentoring and developing teams.Communication: Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, capable of conveying complex legal concepts clearly.Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of the regulatory landscape impacting our business.Community Impact: Driven to making a positive impact on our community through delivering exceptional results.At UU, we celebrate diversity.
