This role offers the opportunity to work on a transformative rail project that will revolutionise travel across Southeast Queensland. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing expert, independent legal advice on all aspects of legislative, legal, contractual, regulatory, and administrative issues. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a project that will have a lasting impact on the region's transport infrastructure.What you'll do:As General Counsel, your role will be pivotal in protecting the interests of the State by providing expert legal advice. You'll be working closely with the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Financial Officer, and other senior leaders. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include leading a team of lawyers and promoting operational effectiveness:Leading the team in the delivery of their responsibilities including setting and supporting completion of KPIs and development plans.Leading and coordinating the provision of independent, cost-effective legal advice and services.Leading the Compliance function which has responsibility to undertake internal audits, ensuring legislatively and regulatory compliance.General legal responsibilities in the areas of land acquisition, compensation, right to information requests, dispute management, procurement and stakeholder management.Representing or overseeing representation in judicial and administrative proceedings and in negotiations with other State agencies where appropriate.Promoting and maximising operational and commercial effectiveness.Drafting, reviewing, and approving policies, procedures, regulations, bylaws, and other legal documents.Providing consultation on complex or sensitive legal issues.Providing training on various legal issues through workshops and meetings.What you bring:You will have a detailed record of demonstrated leadership, commercial judgement and proactive stakeholder management.
