About the Opportunity Peter Elberg Funerals is seeking a dedicated, detail-oriented Funeral Assistant to join their team in Flinders Park.
The Funeral Assistant will support operational functions, including cemetery setups, vehicle cleaning, and equipment maintenance. This role requires a compassionate individual who can maintain high standards of care and respect in all aspects of funeral service, while ensuring that logistical and operational tasks are handled efficiently.
Your role will include: Assist with the setup and breakdown of cemetery services, ensuring all arrangements are dignified, orderly, and meet family expectations. Prepare gravesite areas with necessary equipment, furnishings, and floral arrangements. Conduct site inspections before services to ensure all requirements are met. Perform regular cleaning and maintenance of funeral vehicles, including hearses and transfer vehicles, to ensure they are kept in pristine condition. Conduct routine safety checks and ensure vehicles are always prepared for service use. Conduct the transfer of deceased individuals from various locations (e.g., homes, hospitals, and aged care facilities) to the funeral home with respect and professionalism. Ensure all legal, ethical, and procedural standards are followed during transfers. Handle deceased persons with the utmost dignity, working as a team to ensure safe and compassionate transport. Handle and maintain funeral service equipment and materials, such as chairs, tents, and sound systems. Regularly inspect equipment to ensure it is in good working condition and organise repairs or replacements as needed. Assist funeral directors and other team members in various operational tasks as required. Follow health, safety, and legal guidelines to protect yourself and others in all tasks. This is a Casual/Part-Time position; however, a Full-Time position may be negotiable for the right candidate.
About You To succeed in this role, you will need the following skills and attributes:
Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, carrying, and setting up equipment. Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions. Strong attention to cleanliness, organisation, and maintaining the respectful appearance of all work areas. Works well in a team-oriented environment, understanding the importance of sensitivity and compassion in all duties related to funeral service. Must hold a current driver's license to operate company vehicles. A current and valid police clearance. It would be ideal if you have previously worked in funeral services or related industries. The ideal applicant may also have knowledge of safe manual handling practices.
