The Development Manager is responsible for the development and execution of a broad and ambitious range of fundraising initiatives that advance the Abbotsford Convent's philanthropic, financial, and reputational capital across our diverse donors, stakeholders, and community.
The Development Manager works closely with the Chief Executive Officer, Board, Fundraising Committee, and staff, to develop strategies to grow and maintain relationships that foster support for the Abbotsford Convent.
ORGANISATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS Reporting: The position reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and the Fundraising Coordinator reports to this role.
Internal Relationships: This role is required to liaise with all ACF team members, especially Finance, Governance, Buildings and Facilities, Programming, Marketing and Communications, the Board, and the Fundraising Committee.
External Relationships: The role interfaces with individual donors, partner organisations, philanthropic and corporate contacts, and community stakeholders including supporters, volunteers, and representatives from all levels of government.
Responsibilities: To create and deliver the ACF's development program through: In conjunction with the CEO, design and implement strategic fundraising plans and initiatives to increase and diversify the Convent's revenue streams in alignment with the Convent's strategic priorities.Capitalize on existing relationships and develop a pipeline of new supporters for future growth.Working with the CEO and ACF Board, develop and implement a capital campaign to realize the vision of the Convent's new Master Plan.Manage and participate in the ACF's Board Fundraising Committee.Donor Communications and Stewardship Create and review gift cultivation materials including cases for support, proposals, pitch documents, appeal letters and donor acknowledgement.Work with Marketing and Communications to integrate development messages into existing multi-channel communications to cultivate, grow and sustain long-term engagement, funding and collaboration.Cultivate, maintain, and service relationships with ACF donors by providing excellent customer service and timely responses to donor communications and requests.Lead ACF donor communications including quarterly e-news and web profile content.Fundraising and Relationship Management Lead the stewardship plan and relationship management for current donors, and proactively build new relationships/partnerships with government, sponsors, partner organisations, corporates, Trusts and Foundations and key community stakeholders.Manage targeted engagement events and activities with the ACF team to support donor and stakeholder engagement and cultivation.Conduct prospect research and produce supporter profiles.Personally solicit gifts in support of designated fundraising campaigns and priority projects/programs.End-to-end planning, development and delivery of successful annual fundraising appeals.Keep up to date with trends and market changes in advancement and philanthropic giving so that fundraising strategies and programs are innovative and effective.Systems and Governance Develop and maintain effective systems and processes, including the CRM (Salesforce), to support robust development and engagement activities.Work with the CEO and Fundraising Committee Chair to develop robust reporting, research, data analysis and recommendations.Prepare, monitor and manage budgets.Manage the Convent's schedule of funding reports in accordance with contractual obligations.Leadership Manage the Fundraising Coordinator regularly, share fundraising goals, objectives, strategies and key messages with the broader Convent team.Participate collaboratively as a member of ACF's management team to contribute to the achievement of wider organisational objectives.Foster a culture of philanthropy at the Convent.Undertake other duties as directed.KEY PERFORMANCE MEASURES Effectiveness of fundraising, including; achievement of fundraising targets, number of new prospects identified, number of new and retained donors, number of asks made, level of engagement with donors, development email open rate and click-through rate, growth of donor gifts, average gift size, value of funds raised through grants, philanthropy and sponsorships, increased donor satisfaction as measured by annual surveys, Board endorsement of fundraising strategies and initiatives.High-quality reporting and data-driven recommendations and decisions as measured by CEO and Board feedback.Positive working relationships with members of the ACF Board and Fundraising Committee as measured by Board and Committee feedback.Proactive development of effective systems and processes as demonstrated through the quality of data analysis and reporting.High-quality and successful pitch documents, presentations, offers, proposals, asks and donor impact reports as measured by funds raised.KEY COMPETENCIES Specialist Skills and Knowledge Demonstrated experience in and knowledge of working at a senior fundraising level in a not-for-profit environment with a strong technical understanding of contemporary income generation practices.Developing strategies to achieve substantial financial goals, including defining and tracking fundraising targets and managing resources.Managing and generating entrepreneurial and creative fundraising initiatives, especially for capital campaigns.Well-developed networks and a sound understanding of the philanthropic and corporate sectors.Thorough understanding of NFP organisations, particularly in the field of arts/culture and/or community.Excellent relationship management, particularly the ability to influence senior members of organisations, the government and public leaders.Competent copywriting and storytelling experience and digital communication skills.Customer Relationship Management software proficiency, specifically Salesforce.Management Skills Meticulous attention to detail.Superior organisational skills, time management and project management.Exceptional written and verbal communication.Sound leadership skills with the ability to lead and direct a small team.Confidently engages at a senior level across the NFP/philanthropic sector and government.Ability to work collaboratively under pressure.Attributes An innovative, energetic, flexible, and proactive approach to work.Results-focused with an ability to support those around them for shared success.Strong identification with the vision, values and initiatives of the ACF.Personable, authentic, diplomatic, emotionally intelligent with sophisticated relationship management skills.QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE Minimum 5 years' experience in a senior philanthropy role.Relevant tertiary qualifications.Current Working with Children Check or willingness to obtain one.KEY SELECTION CRITERIA Demonstrated success in the leadership of development, donor relationships and fundraising in a NFP organisation, particularly in the arts/culture and/or community sectors.Evidence of success in developing and delivering innovative fundraising strategies that generate revenue from individuals, government, corporations and philanthropic sectors, particularly capital campaigns.Demonstrated ability to think strategically and tactically about the match between an organisational goal and potential supporters and apply this to building successful cases of support.A proven track record in persuasive and compelling communication (verbal, written and presentations) and interpersonal skills with boards, executives, donors and other stakeholders.Ability to inspire a culture of philanthropy and motivate others to contribute meaningfully to the creation of cases for support, reports, pitches and grant applications.A demonstrated understanding of and commitment to effective budget management, reporting, data analysis, sound fiscal practices and compliance as they relate to fundraising activities.Proven experience in digital and social media fundraising campaigns.Expertise working with a CRM system (preferably Salesforce) and Microsoft Office suite.PAY & CONDITIONS This is a full time, permanent position.
A six-month probation applies.This role has a salary package of circa $125,000 per annum plus superannuation.The Amusement, Events and Recreation Award (MA000080) is applicable.This role will be required to work occasional evenings and weekends linked with programming/events.Note: As the ACF evolves to meet the changing needs of our community and projects, the competencies required for this role may vary from this role statement.
