Our Commonwealth Government client is seeking to engage an experienced FOI practitioner at the APS6 or EL1 level to join their Information Law team, performing all the functions required to manage an FOI request made to the department or portfolio ministers.
An initial 3-month labour hire contract is on offer, with possible extension up to an additional 6 months.
This role requires working from the office in Canberra, ACT at a minimum of four days per week.
Consideration will be given for candidates who are located in Sydney or Adelaide.
Please note: o nly Australian citizens with a Baseline security clearance can be considered for this role.
Duties : You will be required to perform all the functions necessary for managing a request made under the Freedom of Information Act 1982, including but not limited to: Drafting emails, consultation notices, internal notices, and access decisions; Interpreting the scope of requests; Reviewing documents and preparing draft redactions based on instructions from the decision maker; Updating matter management systems and contributing to weekly reporting; Contributing to team meetings; and Assisting with briefing and other reporting, and if required assisting with Information Commissioner submissions or responses.
Requisite skills/experience: Demonstrated experience in FOI law and processing; Ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities under tight timelines and within statutory deadlines; Sound judgement and critical thinking skills; Ability to work independently and as part of a team; Excellent analytical skills and the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; Problem solving experience using judgement when managing risk; and Strong interpersonal and coordination skills, in particular the ability to build effective working relationships with a diverse set of internal and external stakeholders.
