Location: Melbourne | Northern MetropolitanJob type: Full time / variousOrganisation: Victoria PoliceOccupation: ScienceReference: VG/E20034662The Victoria Police Forensic Services Department is an accredited laboratory that provides a professional forensic service to Victoria Police, persons involved with the administration of justice and the public.Victoria PoliceForensic Services DepartmentLab Operations – Biometric ServicesBiological Sciences GroupForensic DNA Database TeamFO-2 Forensic Officer positions available20034662 (Fixed Term to 07/03/2025)20007821 (Fixed Term to 29/11/2024)The Victoria Police Forensic Services Department is an accredited laboratory that provides a professional forensic service to Victoria Police, persons involved with the administration of justice and the public.The function of the FDDT is:To participate in activities around the operation of the National Criminal Investigation DNA Database (NCIDD) and the NCIDD-Integrated Forensic Analysis (NIFA) database.Note: based on business need, this role may include transfer for defined periods to other work units within BSG.About the role :As the successful applicant, some of your duties will include:Upload of increased volume of person samples/profiles on NCIDD/NIFAAssist with the Quality checking of DNA database links from NCIDD/NIFAPrepare and prioritise DNA profiles for NCIDD/NIFA uploadBe aware of Victorian Legislative criteria/requirements in relation to DNA profile upload on NCIDD/NIFAUnderstand relevant Key Performance Indicators and provide database statistics to senior management.Participate in accreditation duties and meet obligations as required.As part of a team, assist in relevant research and development projects, which improve and expand Group methodology as part of the Department's standing as a national and internationally recognised "centre of excellence" as required.Assist in delivery of training to FDDT staff when requiredPresent evidence in Courts of law of a factual nature, in an impartial and concise manner as required.Maintain appropriate knowledge of Victoria Police and Department policies, procedures and legislation.Skills & ExperienceAs the successful applicant, you will have:Ability to undertake scientific/technical examinations following established procedures.Experience with the operation and maintenance of relevant scientific instrumentation.Proven administrative skills including the maintenance of detailed and accurate records.Well-developed oral and written communication skills with an emphasis on the ability to impart specialist knowledge and advice to internal and external stakeholders.Ability to work autonomously and/or in a team environment and to manage workloads in order to meet defined/agreed targets and deadlines.Prepare reports and provide results on technical matters relevant to own work area.An understanding of the customer service requirements of the position and a demonstrated record of strong commitment and achievement in meeting customer needs.A proven record of ethical behaviour and a demonstrated commitment to the Victoria Police Code of Ethics and Conduct and the Organisational Values.Requirements and relevant information:Fixed Term full-time positions available until 07/03/2025 & 29/11/2024.Position is located at 31 Forensic drive Macleod, Victoria.Bachelor of Science Degree, preferably with a major in Molecular Biology and Genetics or equivalent.The successful candidate will be required to provide a DNA sample (buccal swab) for use in laboratory quality control procedures (elimination purposes only)The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.For your application to be considered, your application must include:Resume, andCompleted application form – Application form is attached to the advertisement.
