Demonstrated ability to actively promote the safety and wellbeing of all children in line with the Child Safe Standards.RoleThe Food Technology Assistant role is fixed term from 28/1/2025 - 19/12/2025. The time fraction can be negotiated for the right applicant. The successful applicant must have, or be prepared to obtain, a Food Safety Handling Certificate. In addition, applicants should hold a First Aid Certificate and a Driver's Licence.The primary role of a Food Technology Assistant is to:Support teachers in the classroom to deliver a high-quality food and nutrition program.Support teachers in daily preparation for teaching and learning including the set up and pack/clean-up for practical lessons.Support teachers with the administration component of their work to enable them to focus on teaching and learning.Support a safe and orderly learning environment, ensuring all areas are maintained to a safe and hygienic standard.ResponsibilitiesThe responsibilities of this position will be:The hygienic and orderly maintenance of the Food Technology Centres equipment and facilities.Ordering, purchasing and receiving of storage of food, materials and equipment.Work flexible hours to meet the needs of timetabled classes and those deemed by the school when needed.Under direction of teachers.Provide support to teachers and assist in the implementation of the curriculum.Communicate with student/s about basic tasks and information where required.Assist with co-ordination and planning of the school routine.Address immediate student behaviour issues within the Food Technology environment which impact on safety.Maintain and update logbooks for Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDA).Maintain and regularly update a register of students, with special food needs/allergies.Specific Duties of a Food Technology AssistantEnsure teacher's food orders are processed in a timely and efficient manner.Ensure quality and freshness is of acceptable standard of goods received.Liaise with appropriate teacher to ensure foods are available when needed for classes.Assemble food, equipment or other requirements for individual classes and teachers' demonstrations.Oversee the distribution of food requirements for student groups, when requested subject to time availability.CleaningDaily cleaning routine:Teacher's demonstrations dishes and benches, and store benches.Help and work with teachers in the checking of benches at the end of the lesson when appropriate.Ensure the sanitizing of the kitchens.Assist with spills or any other potential hazards in the classroom in consultation and under the direction of the teacher.Launder cloths, tea towels and other linen used.Periodic cleaning routine:Student units and aprons, store cupboards, twice a year or when necessary.Stove tops, microwave ovens, storage tubs and small equipment.Refrigerators and freezers.Laundry equipment and dishwasher.InventoryRecord new/obsolete items as appropriate.Assistance to Food Technology teachers:Prepare portioned sizes and weighing of food for student use in class.Ensure that specific equipment as required for each topic is available for class use.Undertake any other duties as required by the Principal Class Team, Business Manager and Learning Area Leader.Who May ApplyIndividuals with the aptitude, experience and/or qualifications to fulfill the specific requirements of the position.EEO AND OHS CommitmentApplicants seeking part-time employment are encouraged to apply for any teaching service position and, if they are the successful candidate, request a reduced time fraction.
