We are also establishing a merit pool that will be used to fill other similar vacancies that may arise within the Branch.The Flight Testing Office is responsible for regulatory service activities associated with the Flight Examiner Rating Course; the oversight and education of industry examiners, technical input to the biennial Professional Development Program and the conduct of examiner proficiency checks. These activities span 141/142 and air transport operations in aeroplanes, helicopters and simulators.This role assumes responsibility and accountability for the oversight of Flight Examiners, 61.040 approval holders and Approved Testing Officers and for the conduct of flight tests and proficiency checks. This role has a strong educational focus and is required to provide industry mentoring, training and assessment.This role is preferably located in either Melbourne, Adelaide or Perth; however, other locations will be considered. Interstate travel will be required.The Flight Training Examiner is responsible for the following deliverables:Exercise the prescribed delegations as authorised by the Director of Aviation Safety / CEO and undertake the activities of the Branch in a professional, effective and efficient manner.Conduct ground and air surveillance of Flight Examiners, 61.040 approval holders and Approved Testing Officers and associated flying training activities in accordance with prescribed schedules to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.Investigate incidents, complaints or other reports relating to Flight Examiners and initiate any necessary action in regard to deficiencies or breaches of the legislation.Make assessments and recommendations in relation to applicants seeking to become Flight Examiners and conduct surveillance to ensure continued maintenance of required standards.Conduct flight tests for the issue of licences and ratings and conduct proficiency checks as required.Provide ongoing mentoring and education to Flight Examiners.Provide expert services to the industry on a fee for service basis.Promote workplace safety, equity and diversity, participative management and environmental management in the workplace and act in accordance with the CASA Values and Behaviours.Other duties as required.Our ideal candidate must have the following mandatory requirements:Hold an Air Transport Pilot Licence with a Helicopter Category Rating;Hold a current Class 1 Medical certificate;Hold a CASA Flight Examiner Rating with multiple Flight Examiner Endorsements including IR (H) and NVIS and a current Examiner Rating proficiency check;Hold a Flight Instructor Rating with a Grade One or two Training Endorsement and a current Instructor Rating proficiency check;Have extensive Australian flight testing experience and demonstrated knowledge as a Flight Examiner Rating holder, Approved Testing Officer, military equivalent or CASA inspector.Our ideal candidate must demonstrate the following:Strong understanding of Australia's civil aviation legislation with a focus on flight training operations and their application in a regulatory environment.Strong stakeholder management skills including the ability to liaise with stakeholders and provide well-considered responses to complex matters.High level written and verbal communications skills with the ability to interpret complex information and present effective arguments in a timely manner.Ability to independently exercise judgement in handling complex queries and share information with other team members to achieve outcomes.The following requirements are desirable:Hold, or have held, the position of Chief Pilot and/or Head of Operations (HOO).Have current Australian flight testing knowledge and experience across multiple kinds of flight tests and proficiency checks.Have recent experience with a Part 141 or 142 operator.Have recent helicopter training and checking experience.Have offshore heavy helicopter experience.Have experience as a NVIS and IR (H) Flight Examiner.Eligibility RequirementsEmployment with CASA is subject to conditions prescribed within the Civil Aviation Act 1988.
