Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position in the Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD). This position will be located in the Centre of Population Health within Integrated and Community Health.

The Centre for Population Health (CPH) is a business unit within the WSLHD Directorate of Integrated and Community Health (ICH). It provides over-arching leadership, engagement, and strategic direction for population health across the District. We use a preventative, whole-of-population lens to develop and implement health policies and programs to improve the health and wellbeing of the population within WSLHD.

Located within the Cumberland Hospital campus, CPH is supported by approximately 50 full time equivalent staff who deliver population health programs across western Sydney. Our workforce is drawn from a range of disciplines with expertise and skills in public health, health promotion, health equity, epidemiology, applied research, program development and evaluation, social marketing and communications, community engagement and capacity building.

We have a diverse, evidence-based program of work, with priorities determined by State and Commonwealth strategic directions, the District's Strategic Plan, local data and needs. CPH includes public health and health promotion services, as well as staff who support the essential functions of business operations and administration, strategy, planning and engagement.

Organisationally the Director of the Centre for Population Health provides high-level strategic leadership and management for the Centre for Population Health, and for efforts across Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) to:
Establish broad strategic directions in population health, ensuring effective managerial, financial and accountability arrangements for implementing key projects and programs in the population health. Ensure systems in place to respond to disease outbreaks and incidents which pose a threat to public health in a timely manner. In collaboration with clinicians and laboratory services develop comprehensive public health responses to epidemics and emergencies. Fulfil statutory obligations under the Public Health Act, NSW. Advocate for population health approaches in local, regional, State and national forums and networks. Establish and maintain effective systems for planning, implementation and review of population health programs and activities develop and implement effective systems for quality improvement and workforce development in Population Health.
Successful applicants will:
Be able to work under pressure during public health outbreaks and emergencies. Be an advocate for population health matters both within WSLHD and with our professional and community partners. Be able to effectively represent WSLHD interests in deliberations with the NSW Ministry of Health. Be able to effectively communicate public health risks, priorities and messages to the public. Demonstrate high level communication and interpersonal and negotiating skills. Demonstrate highly developed analytical, problem solving and strategic planning skills. Demonstrate ability to develop and maintain effective and collaborative relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. Demonstrate highly developed management skills and experience managing population health teams. Demonstrate high level knowledge and experience in planning and implementing population health. Essential Requirements for Appointment 1. Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians (Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine) or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency.
2. Sound clinical knowledge in Public Health Medicine demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position.


Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Staff Specialists (State) Award.

1. Qualifications and credentials required for core scope of practice in the specialty.
2. Evidence of additional qualifications, skills and/or experience required for specific scope of practice for the specialty.
3. Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including:
· Proven ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team.
· Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues.
· Excellent organisational, supervision and collaboration skills with demonstrated ability to build respectful relationships.
4. Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including:
· Maintaining and developing knowledge, skills and professional performance to the level required for contemporary practice.
· Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and translation of research into practice to improve patient safety and quality.
5. Demonstrated ability to manage time and resources efficiently and contributing to the effectiveness and efficiency of the health care system.
6. Demonstrated aptitude for clinical leadership which is evidenced by:
· Systems thinking and risk-taking aptitude.
· Commitment to self -care and personal development.
· Capacity to maintain personal integrity, tolerate stress and demonstrate resilience.
· Commitment to building relationships, leading, and developing others.
· Results and outcome focused.
7. Commitment to good governance, achieving results and managing risks.
8. Demonstrated commitment to Education, Training and Research, as applicable to the position.
