Job Description - Seafood Process Worker
About the Role:
As a Seafood Processor at the Darwin Fish Market, you play a vital role in ensuring the quality and integrity of our seafood products. Your responsibilities encompass various tasks related to the receival, processing, packaging, and delivery of fish and seafood, all while upholding the highest standards of hygiene, safety, and professionalism.
Job Responsibilities:
Receive incoming seafood shipments and inspect for freshness and quality.
Record received quantities and conduct initial temperature, quality, and compliance checks.
Transfer received seafood to designated storage areas, maintaining temperature and hygiene protocols.
Sort, inspect, and grade seafood products for size and quality.
Prepare seafood by skinning, trimming, washing, gilling, gutting, filleting, and/or descaling fish, shellfish, and molluscs.
Quality check oysters and shuck ensuring quality is maintained.
Operate machines which slice, cook, and process seafood.
Pack prepared seafood for freezing or to prepare orders for dispatch.
Ensure accurate labelling of all products for wholesale and retail distribution.
Store packed product appropriately in either chiller or freezer.
Rotate stock as necessary to minimize waste and ensure product freshness, following FIFO (First In, First Out) principles.
Ensure vehicles are in appropriate working condition for deliveries.
Pack and load products into trucks according to customer and company specifications.
Deliver and unload goods safely and as per customer and company specifications to customers in accordance with work instructions.
Report any issues to Quality Manager promptly.
Skills and Experience:
The role of Seafood Processor at the Darwin Fish Market requires workplace foundational skills, including the ability to read and comprehend simple English for tasks such as understanding seafood orders and completing forms, as well as basic numeracy for tasks like filling in time sheets and checklists. Additionally, effective oral communication skills are necessary for interacting with team members and supervisors. While the level required is relatively minimal, these skills are essential for the smooth functioning of daily operations.
