Fisheries Technician ; Fisheries/ Marine science/ Environmental science
Archipelago is a privately owned consulting firm with over 40 years' experience in environment monitoring and assessment including providing human and technical support services to commercial fisheries monitoring programs. Archipelago is an industry pioneer in electronic monitoring solutions to commercial fisheries. We work with a diverse array of clients, including fishing industries, government agencies and non-governmental organizations to help develop efficient and cost-effective solutions for marine resource sustainability. The Australian office of Archipelago is located in Canberra.
Archipelago is expanding our team of fisheries technicians. The role involves the processing of Electronic Monitoring Systems (EMS) Data received via our technology hosted on commercial fishing vessels. This is carried out through use of a variety of analytical and data assessment methods. The role will also include interactions with management, field staff, and commercial fishers in problem solving and investigations. The Fisheries Technician role is an excellent introduction to fisheries management and compliance, as well as data processing and management.
Successful applicants should have: A biology or environmental science degree (complete or studying towards), or fisheries experience. Marine fish species identification or related skills (desired but could be demonstrated through identification of other species). Demonstrated proficiency in data collection. Database management skills desirable. Must be able to complete police/background screening and Commonwealth Security Vetting.
