Job Overview
• Undertake challenging, meaningful work as part of an experienced First Nations team of solicitors and professionals.
• Support the delivery of high quality, culturally safe legal services to First Nations women.
• Obtain in-depth understanding of the family law jurisdiction to boost your career as a legal professional.
The Paralegal will be part of the Mulleun Mura Team and works under the general direction of the Solicitors for the program.
The paralegal provides essential support to lawyers and performs a wide range of legal tasks, including legal research, drafting documents, and managing case files in an accurate and timely way.
You will also play a crucial role in client relationships, gathering information, and maintaining communication between the team and their clients.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform intake assessments for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women.
• Develop and maintain knowledge of other community and legal services to support effective referrals.
• Maintain accurate data and records.
• Provide high quality legal secretarial support and support workflow systems.
• Communicate with ongoing clients of the Centre in relation to appointments and other matters as directed.
Qualifications & Experience
• This role would suit a First Nations law student, someone who has completed other relevant qualifications, or someone with other relevant work experience.
• Desirable – Law student in second or third year of law degree; or previous experience in a paralegal role.

About the Centre
The Women's Legal Centre is a specialist community legal centre.
Our primary legal practice areas are family law, migration, employment, discrimination, sexual harassment, and sexual violence.
The Centre includes a specialist program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, Mulleun Mura, and delivers services through partnerships with health and community organisations.
Our vision is that women are safe, strong, and in control of their lives.
The Centre provides legal assistance across the spectrum of need, including legal information and referral, legal advice and representation, and litigation.
The Centre provides legal services within a multi-disciplinary and trauma-informed practice model that incorporates social work, cultural support, and collaborative service models to provide wrap-around support to the most vulnerable and at-risk clients.
