First Nations Community Engagement Officer Edon Place Domestic and Family Violence Centre – Bundaberg QLD
EDON Place Domestic and Family Violence Centre is a not-for-profit organisation. The Centre is the lead provider, access point and offers a holistic approach to domestic and family violence in Bundaberg and the North Burnett region. EDON Place provides the following programs funded by the Queensland Government – Department of Justice and Attorney General:
Role Overview:
The First Nations Community Engagement Officer role is to support the Community Engagement Coordinator by promoting the services provided at EDON Place DFV Centre to the broader community within Bundaberg and the North Burnett regions. The position holder will be required to maintain an integrated service response which brings together a broad range of government, non-government agencies, and services to facilitate a flexible and tailored response to individuals experiencing domestic and family violence.
In addition, the position holder will provide positive and effective working relationships with Queensland Police Service, Courts, Queensland Corrective Services, Health, Housing, Child Safety, Education, and services targeting First Nations people. The position holder must positively represent EDON Place to the public, community, government, media, and other organisations/stakeholders as required.
The First Nations Community Engagement Officer is responsible for increasing community awareness around DFV, enhancing the capacity of individuals, to ensure that community groups respond appropriately. The position will develop and deliver activities in the context of a holistic response to DFV at a local level. Furthermore, provide DFV awareness presentations, training activities, and community events to engage identified target populations. As the First Nations Community Engagement Officer, you will be assisting with the delivery of all objectives outlined in EDON Place's Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) as well as supporting the service with community development and engagement around cultural diversity.
This position is for 40 hours per fortnight. Hours and days to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

This position is First Nations identified. To perform this role, it is essential that the person who holds the role be First Nations person. It is a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 that applicants are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders. Qualifications - Minimum of diploma level in Community/Human Services or Social Sciences or working toward one, experience in domestic and family violence or related field; or, working towards tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline; or extensive experience working in a domestic violence agency or related agency. Demonstrated understanding of policy and practice in the welfare sector with proven strong skills in building partnerships and linkages with the service system, fostering effective collaboration within the community. Demonstrated ability to facilitate educational programs for women and children including assisting women in their parenting role. Ability to openly communicate with Mothers in a respectful manner regarding child related issues. Understanding of effects of domestic violence and trauma on victims including those from First Nations and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds. Demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively with the capacity to negotiate quality outcomes for women and children affected by domestic and family violence, with other EDON Place programs, government and non-government agencies and the community. Demonstrated understanding of policy and practice in the welfare sector with strong skills in building partnerships and linkages with the service system, fostering effective service delivery. Demonstrated experience delivering case management to women, young women, and children who have experienced domestic and family violence. Demonstrated understanding of the gendered nature of domestic and family violence and the ability to support and maintain direct service delivery that responds effectively to the issues that are a consequence of the violence including associated complex issues. Demonstrated high level of interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to establish rapport, negotiate, influence, advocate and resolve conflict respectfully. Advanced computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and working in database systems. Excellence in data collection and reporting requirements, written and oral communication skills including public speaking, presentations, and the delivery of DFV community education programs. Demonstrated ability to competently liaise and negotiate with service providers.
