Location:  Manuka, Canberra ACT Employment Type:  Full-time, permanent Salary Range: $126,414 - $139,051 plus superannuation (based on skills and experience) Start Date:  Immediate Closing Date:  11.55 pm, Wednesday 1 May 2024 Catholic Education, Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn (CECG) plays an integral role in education in the ACT and NSW, operating 56 Schools and 8 Early Learning Centres. About the Catholic Education Office The Catholic Education Office (CEO) provides corporate services to the CECG system of schools and ELCs. Service Areas include Education and Performance Improvement, Catholic Identity, School and Family Services, Strategy and Special Projects, Finance and Infrastructure, Information and Communication Technology and People and Culture. About the Role  As CECG's Financial Accountant, you will be part of the Financial Control team that meets its statutory reporting, finance questionnaire, and public funding compliance requirements. The role of the Financial Accountant is to ensure compliance with regulatory external agencies relating to GST, FBT, ABS surveys, and related party registers. The function is responsible for documenting, testing, and maintaining the finance risk/control framework in order to provide recommendations for better control management. The Financial Accountant uses best practice methodologies to drive positive change, improving organisational financial compliance and mitigating potential financial risks. The Financial Accountant will support the day-to-day activities of the Financial Control Team. This role will collaborate with other team members to assist in reconciliation, general ledger, and accounting activities relating to month-end and year-end finance operations, salary packaging, and complying with various government funding financial acquittal reporting requirements. Preparation of the BAS monthly for the system and other entities. Preparation of FBT on an annual basis for the system and other entities. Ensuring compliance with ABS reporting. Maintaining related party registers for the system and other entities. Assist in the preparation of statutory reporting. Providing subject matter expertise to team members on tax, compliance or regulatory issues and matters. Assisted project ledger maintenance by ensuring data integrity and monitoring compliance. Assisting in the preparation of capital project grants acquittal. Accounting duties include month-end, journal processing, generating system reports, calculating and posting accruals, provisions, and adjustments. Assisting the production of timely and accurate monthly and annual statutory and regulatory reporting. Qualifications Tertiary qualifications or equivalent in Accounting/Business. CPA or CA-qualified Minimum of 5 years experience across similar Finance roles. WWVP Card or willingness to obtain. Selection Criteria Professional experience and working knowledge with computer software packages including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, Power Point) and electronic document applications. A focus on detail and a willingness to be responsible for their work. Effective analytical and problem-solving capabilities. Written and verbal communication skills and an ability to collaborate effectively both within and across teams. Strong time management capabilities. Compliance with regulatory reporting requirements. Experience in preparation of BAS, FBT, ABS Submissions, related party registers and annual financial reporting.
