With a commitment to excellence and growth, we're looking for an experienced Financial Accountant to lead our finance operations, partner with the CEO in strategic growth, and develop the finance division to support future business expansion.
Position Summary: The Financial Accountant will oversee all aspects of financial operations, including accounting, month-end closing activities, general ledger management, and regulatory compliance. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who can ensure accuracy in financial records and implement strategies for long-term growth.
Working closely with the CEO, the Financial Accountant will play a vital role in financial planning, process improvements, and, as the business grows, building and mentoring the finance team.
Primary Responsibilities: Month-End & General Ledger Management: Lead the month-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate reconciliation of accounts, owning all aspects of financial accounting transactions, general ledger accuracy, and the preparation of financial statements covering Income Statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement.Financial Reporting & Compliance: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports; manage tax compliance, including PAYG and BAS, and ensure adherence to Australian accounting standards. Coordinate with external tax advisors on annual income tax returns, ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations.Strategic Financial Planning: Support the CEO in financial strategy, identifying opportunities for growth, optimizing resource allocation, and advising on financial impacts of strategic initiatives.Cost Control & Profitability: Analyze project costs, improve profitability through cost management, and support pricing strategies for competitive client quotations.Accounts Payable & Receivable: Oversee AP and AR functions, ensuring timely invoicing, effective cash flow management, and strong client and vendor relationships.Payroll Processing: Manage payroll, superannuation, and related employee tax compliance, ensuring timely and accurate processing for all staff.Procurement & Supplier Management: Handle supplier negotiations, procurement processes, and cost controls to support project delivery and budget adherence.Team Development & Leadership: Hire, build, lead, and coach the finance team as the business scales, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.Process Improvement & Automation: Identify and implement process improvements for efficiency in reporting, budgeting, and financial accuracy.Communication: Develop strong and collaborative relationships and communicate effectively with the company Director and CEO on company financials, strategies, challenges, and solutions.Qualifications and Key Requirements: Bachelor's degree in accounting and/or finance, CPA or ACCA qualification or finalist preferred.5+ years of experience in a finance management role, preferably in the services industry.Strong understanding of BAS, PAYG, and other Australian tax and compliance requirements.Excellent organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.Experience in pricing and vendor negotiation.Desired Characteristics, Competence and Capabilities: Strong background in accounting and finance, particularly in strategy planning, with a deep understanding of financial principles, regulations, and reporting standards.Strong time management, decision-making, and organizational skills.Ability to build relationships with clients and key internal stakeholders across the company.Excellent leadership, communication, and analytical skills with a proactive, growth-oriented mindset.Capacity to lead and inspire financial teams, set a vision for the finance department, and drive the execution of financial strategies.Flexibility to adapt to changing market conditions and a willingness to adjust financial strategies accordingly.What's in it for you?
