About the roleThe Finance Solutions Lead will leverage expertise in financial derivatives, risk management, and financial analysis to streamline and enhance processes within our in-house Finance system.
You will work closely with the Finance team to ensure the system is functioning efficiently, track and report on financial performance, and ensure that the company's financial strategies are aligned with the broader risk management framework.
The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the energy industry's financial dynamics, including the use of financial derivatives for hedging strategies.
You will apply your analytical skills to make informed decisions based on market trends, data insights, and risk assessments to drive operational efficiencies and improve financial outcomes. This will be a 12 month fixed-term role based in Melbourne. What you'll be doing Lead financial analysis initiatives, focusing on key metrics related to energy pricing, commodity trading, and derivative instruments.
Collaborate with the Finance team to develop financial reports and provide actionable insights on financial performance, variances, and trends.Make informed decisions based on data analysis, financial models, and market trends to help drive business decisions and improve overall financial performance.Drive continuous improvement initiatives to streamline and optimize operational processes.
Utilize analytical tools to design and propose practical solutions, including coordinating systems integration and ensuring appropriate controls and compliance measures are in place.Take responsibility for governance, integrity, and security of financial data and systems, ensuring financial systems and risk management practices comply with industry regulations, internal controls, and best practices.Work closely with internal stakeholders, including Trading, Risk, and IT teams, to ensure alignment on financial processes and risk management strategies.Serve as a subject matter expert on financial systems, providing guidance and support across the organization.What you'll bring to the table Bachelor's degree in Analytics, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Finance, Economics or a related field.Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities with a proven ability to interpret complex financial data and translate it into actionable insights.Proficiency in data governance and data analysis tools such as SQL, Python, R, or other relevant programming languages.Experience presenting information in management reports through data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar.High attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to identify discrepancies and resolve issues quickly.Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.Excellent communication skills including the ability to explain technical concepts to a non-technical audience.Experience within the energy trading industry, including understanding of financial derivatives in hedging strategies to manage market risk (desirable).We'd love to see your application by 11:59pm, Thursday 16 January 2025 At AGL, we offer a wide range of benefits including: Flexible working options including hybrid work.Discounts on energy, telcos, and solar plans.Participate in Energise - our reward & recognition program.Play an active role in our diversity & inclusion initiatives.Novated leasing and Electric Vehicle subscriptions.Access to study assistance, AGL's share purchase plan, and insurance deals.* Benefits may change over time and vary based on location.
