My client, one of Melbourne's best established specialist contractors in the fire protection market have tasked me with finding them an experienced Fire Design Engineer.
Requirements:
Experience working in buildings Services / fire sprinklers - Fire systems design Qualifications in engineering / building services discipline 5 + years relevant experience Experience designing fire sprinkler systems, hydrants / water tanks / piping and general building services projects. Some past experience using Revit / AutoCAD on local projects preferred. Knowledge and experience using Australian codes and standards Good all round communication skills RBP useful but not essential Some prior knowledge of the BCA, Australian Standards and local Authority requirements. Strong adherence to and awareness of Australian safety standards. You must have the rights to work in Australia and be based in Melbourne. Good communication skills written and verbal. The Wet Fire Design Engineer will be responsible for designing and engineering wet fire protection systems, including sprinklers, standpipes, and hydrant systems. This role requires a strong understanding of fire protection engineering principles, building codes, and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities: System Design: Develop detailed designs for wet fire protection systems using industry-standard software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit). Create system layouts, perform hydraulic calculations, and prepare technical specifications. Ensure designs comply with relevant building codes, standards, and client requirements. Project Coordination: Collaborate with architects, engineers, and construction professionals to integrate fire protection systems into building designs. Coordinate with project managers to ensure timely and accurate completion of design tasks. Review and approve shop drawings and submittals from contractors and vendors. Compliance and Documentation: Ensure all designs adhere to local, state, and federal fire protection regulations and codes (e.g., NFPA, AS1851). Prepare and maintain detailed documentation, including design reports, calculations, and project records. Participate in code reviews and inspections to ensure compliance with fire safety standards. Client and Stakeholder Interaction: Communicate with clients to understand their fire protection needs and provide expert advice. Present design concepts and solutions to clients and stakeholders. Address client inquiries and provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle. Quality Assurance and Improvement: Conduct quality control checks on designs to ensure accuracy and compliance. Stay updated on the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices in fire protection engineering. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance design processes and efficiency. The business is extremely busy at present and the role has come about as a result of a planned expansion.
