Our clients are a large family-owned farming business focussed on the commercial production of Cattle. They are spread across five properties in Southeast SA, close to Lucindale and Penola, and currently run 3,500 breeders.
The Role
We seek a Farm Manager to join an existing team in Southeast South Australia and manage one of five family-owned and operated properties. You will manage a well-set-up property covering some 2,700 acres located 20 kilometres south of Lucindale. This property currently runs 800 Angus females and 400 steers. With an emphasis on breeding top-quality livestock with leading genetics being utilised to produce consistent, highly fertile, quiet stock with above-average growth rates.
This well-equipped property has a modern centre pivot irrigator covering 20 ha, which allows livestock to be finished for feedlot entry and Lucerne hay production. The farm boasts good infrastructure, including fencing, water infrastructure, and productive pastures. All sowing, hay, and silage production work is outsourced to contractors.
We are seeking a Farm Manager who is motivated to work autonomously and who can report to the owner and see the implementation of the cattle breeding program, ensuring the production and profitability of the enterprise are realised. You will ideally have a sound understanding of cattle production systems, including a thorough understanding of feed and stock nutritional requirements.
You will be required to contribute to planning meetings to ensure proper planning, recording, and reporting. You will be responsible for the timely completion of all day-to-day operations for livestock production. The successful applicant will also bring their experience and knowledge to grow the business, and your input will be encouraged.
You will ensure property infrastructure is maintained to a high standard and coordinate staff and contractors as required. Our client values a safe workplace where safety is front of mind.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful applicant must have:
Minimum of 5 years experience in a senior farmhand/cattle-focused role. Excellent communication skills and ability to work well in a team environment. Excellent grazing management and livestock husbandry knowledge and skills. Experience with contributing to and adhering to annual production plans. A commitment to working safely and productively. Experience and willingness to do general farm labour & maintenance, including fencing repair. The Offer
