Position objectives

To provide building and asset maintenance services to the Northern Grampians Shire Council.
Work with subcontractors and ensure that work is performed safely and to the required standard


Undertake works including carpentry, incidental works such as concreting, steel fabrication and minor building maintenance.
Key responsibility areas



Assist the Team Leader to deliver the annual Facility and Building maintenance program being responsive to community needs and at high quality within budget.
Oversee the work of the crew specifically formed for individual projects, paying particular attention to on-the-job training, personnel issues and quality control.
Provide direction and on the job training to employees within the team in areas such as safe work practices and safe operation of equipment.
Undertake minor maintenance tasks in and around the facilities such as minor painting, mending and general handyman duties as needed.
Conduct minor building and asset inspections and report to the Team Leader in a timely manner.
Carry out works directly associated with the fabrication and the maintenance of the built environment.
Undertake regular inspections of facilities and equipment and ensure compliance with Essential Service manuals, Council risk management and asset maintenance schedules to ensure the safety of users and staff.
Ensure Council's Service Standards are met, customers requests are handled efficiently in a knowledgeable, confidential and timely manner ensuring delivery is responsive, first point issue resolution and customer centric.
Model Council values and be an integral member of the facility maintenance team including participating in team projects, process mapping and review, and proactively responding to customer requests


Assist the Team Facility and Building Maintenance to provide on-the-job skills and development?


Perform, as directed, other duties that are within the limits of the incumbents' skill, competence and training.
Qualifications and experience



Trade qualification in the field would be highly regarded (builder, plumber, electrician)


Experience in building and construction works


Competence in the use of equipment, reading and interpreting plans, specifications and contract documents is desirable


Some knowledge of relevant building, current building regulations and legislation


Competence in the use of scaffolding, working at heights and forklift is highly desirable



Selection criteria



An ability to communicate and supervise staff and working in a team environment??


An ability to complete daily timesheets and associated plant/equipment and activity returns detailing activities for the day.
Ability to communicate and gain cooperation from staff, and where relevant members of the public, to discuss and resolve problems.
Utilise problem solving skills, improving and / or developing methods and techniques to achieve efficiencies or quality improvements in output or systems


Well developed communication and interpersonal skills


Good time management skills
