Experimental Scientist - Predictive PhenotypingAt The Australian Institute of Marine Science
About this exciting opportunity
Embedded in the Technology, Advanced Analysis and Synthesis team, you will be responsible for identifying phenotypes of reef organisms that are strongly predictive or correlative with genotypic and/or environmental data. You will study natural variation in heat tolerance of corals across environmental gradients in tropical north Australia and bring excellence in physiological and/or genomic analyses to support the development of markers that predict heat and bleaching tolerance for corals.
You will take a lead role in examining how structural, biochemical and/or ecological factors influence the capacity of reefs to recover from disturbances using a combination of aquarium and field experiments and ecological data. As an experimental scientist, you will collaborate to produce scientific papers, technical reports, and oral presentations and to define phenotypic traits of interest, identifying novel traits attributable to hosts and/or symbionts.
About you
You will hold a PhD or Masters in phenotype-genotype or phenotype-environment interactions or a relevant discipline along with demonstrated experience engaging with research partners and stakeholders. As an experienced Experimental Scientist, you will be confident with physiological, molecular, ecological, and/or statistical analyses, experiments, and field studies. Your high-level competence with project management and operational execution of experiments and field studies will contribute to your success in this role.
