About the organisation The NSW Aboriginal Education Consultative Group Inc. (NSW AECG) is a non-profit Aboriginal organisation dedicated to providing advice on education and training, ensuring that Aboriginal community viewpoints are considered in decision-making processes. It aims to promote respect, empowerment, self-determination, and equal partnership through collaborative consultation.
Primary Role: The organisation advocates for Aboriginal people's active participation in shaping education and training policies to help every Aboriginal child and young person in NSW achieve their potential.
Network: The NSW AECG's strength comes from its extensive network of 145 Local AECGs, 20 Regional AECGs, a State Committee, and an Association Management Committee. This structure allows the Aboriginal community's voice to be reflected at both State and Commonwealth levels. The organisation is volunteer-based but supported by a Secretariat workforce of approximately 50 staff across NSW.
About the role The Executive Officer – Network Support is responsible for leading the Secretariat's Network Support team, ensuring the Local, Regional and State AECGs are supported to operate effectively when representing the viewpoint of the Aboriginal Community on all matters relating to Aboriginal Education and Training in NSW and supporting the Early Years program in designated areas across NSW.
About you To be successful in this role, you will have a strong understanding of Aboriginal cultures and communities across NSW particularly the NSW AECG network. Excellent time management skills along with demonstrated negotiation, conflict resolution, written and verbal communication skills are essential. Additionally, you will need to demonstrate a deep understanding of the operations, governance, and history of the NSW AECG.
Highly organised and able to manage high volume, complex changing priorities. Strong management communication and collaboration skills to work cohesively with stakeholders to deliver results. Ability to work with a team autonomously. Key Selection Criteria Lead a growing team in supporting the NSW AECG Network to ensure effective operations and successful program delivery. Participate in critical governance and decision-making processes particularly relating to NSW AECG Constitution and Network. Lead negotiation and conflict resolution practices within various environments including within the NSW AECG network and various educational settings. Provide strategic advice to the President and Association Management Committee. Additional Conditions Lead the growth of the Network Support division. Manage the establishment of new programs and initiatives while maintaining business-as-usual operations. Work effectively in a broader team to drive cultural change within the Secretariat to embed long term policies and practices. Support effective decision-making for the Secretariat. The Executive Officer – Network Support has two direct reports and involves a high level of responsibility in policy direction of the NSW AECG. The Network Support team has an allocation of 14 staff plus consultant engagements within the organisation structure.
