Who we are
The DCCEEW Water Policy Division's objective is to improve the health of rivers and wetlands and enhance the sustainable, efficient and productive use of Australia's water resources.
This is done by ensuring Australia's water resources are sustainable for the future by leading and supporting national and multi-jurisdictional water policy, programs, and regulation.
We comprise 5 branches with responsibility for:
First Nations WaterNational Water Policy and International EngagementWater Markets and Regulatory PolicyMurray-Darling Basin Strategy and PolicyMurray Darling Basin Economics, Evidence and Engagement.The key duties of the position include:The Executive Officer (EO) role is an exciting and unique opportunity to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
The EO will play an integral role in supporting the Head of Division (SES Band 2), and executive leadership team, in the management of the division.
As an EO you will provide strategic, operational and administrative support to the Head of Division on a wide range of issues.
Responsibilities include:
Providing high level coordination and management support to the Head of Division, including through effectively working with the division's Senior Executive team, executive assistants, staff and with the Deputy Secretary's office to ensure alignment with priorities.Supporting the Head of Division's oversight of all enabling functions within the division: budgets, staffing, corporate planning and reporting, risk, and legal matters.Planning, coordinating, and undertaking research, analysis and interpretation, including on interpreting financial reports and working with departmental finance business partners.Actively monitoring key issues across the Division and providing quick, high-level written and verbal advice and briefing as required.Coordinating briefs, correspondence and parliamentary documents across the Group, including Senate Estimates briefs and questions on notice.Drafting timely and accurate communications products including to staff across the Division.Working collaboratively with colleagues across the division and department to support the Head of Division to implement group and department priorities on time and of a high quality.Leading and contributing to projects to support the achievement of organisation level strategic and operational objectives, including change management.At DCCEEW, we believe that an inclusive and diverse workplace is pivotal to making our department the best place for people to work.

You will:
Be confident working at a fast pace and will be able to anticipate issues and work proactively under limited direction.Have a sound understanding of the department and division's work and priorities, as well as corporate governance processes.Foster collaboration, be self-aware, listen carefully, and model the APS values in all aspects of your work.Citizenship - To be eligible for employment with the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water you must be an Australian citizen.
Security Clearance - This position requires a Baseline Vetting security clearance.
You will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
Pre-employment Check - Your suitability for employment will be assessed through a pre-employment screening process.
This process includes a requirement to undergo and satisfy a National Police Check, referee checks, character clearance and where required a pre-employment medical assessment, specified mandatory qualification(s) validation and a probation period of 6 months.
