Who we are The Agvet Chemicals, Fisheries, Forestry and Engagement Division develops and implements policies that support continual improvement and innovation in managing and regulating Agvet chemicals, fisheries, and forestry. The division engages with a wide range of stakeholders throughout Australia and internationally. The division delivers strategic policy advice and reform, delivers grants and industry assistance programs, undertakes legislative reform, and plays a leading role in international negotiations.

The Agvet Chemicals and Forestry Branch works to improve existing Agvet chemicals regulation, contributes to international and domestic Agvet chemicals policy and delivers policy advice and programs in support of Australia's sustainable and internationally competitive forest industries. We develop policies that ensure our forestry industry remains competitive and sustainable to deliver products all Australian's use. We provide advice and support to the department's executive and Ministers on Agvet chemical and forestry issues. We are also responsible for actions to combat illegal logging and its associated trade and the development and implementation of government responses to independent reviews. The branch works with a wide range of stakeholders from industry, community, state governments, other Commonwealth agencies, foreign trading partners and multilateral organisations.

The Executive Officer role supports the First Assistant Secretary (FAS) and the broader Executive Group to deliver on the division's objectives, support strategic coordination and build on the collaborative culture across the division to assist with cross cutting priorities and pressures. The role will provide you an opportunity to gain a broader knowledge of the work of the ACFFD, stretch your subject matter knowledge and seek out workplace issues you have not previously been exposed to.

The Job
• Working with relevant corporate teams across the department to ensure ACFFD meets its departmental requirements regarding governance, policies, and procedures. 
• Leading the Division's Departmental reporting requirements including divisional business and risk planning, business impact analysis, senate estimates coordination and input into the department's annual report. 
• Leading the work of the Division to prepare divisional budgets and workforce planning and engage with our finance business partners to provide accurate and timely advice on budget matters. 
• Collaborate with senior executives to develop and implement strategic plans that align with government objectives and priorities as well as identify and implement opportunities to improve business practices. 
• Working closely to manage the EA team and oversee divisional coordination activities. 
• Assisting with recruitment processes and arranging training opportunities to improve capability within the division. 
• Engagement with internal and external stakeholders, including government officials and industry partners. 
• Provide timely and accurate advice to senior executive on complex issues, facilitating informed decision-making. 
• Meeting with the FAS regularly and progressing ad-hoc and priority tasks as delegated by the FAS.

Please note that this recruitment process will initially be used to fill the vacancy in the section and that the role may be performed from any of the locations listed above. The merit pool established through this selection process, which is valid for a period of eighteen months from the date the vacancy was advertised in the Public Service Gazette, may also be used to fill future ongoing vacancies in the branch where the duties are of a similar nature.

Skills and Capabilities
• A demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and strategic directions while achieving team outcomes in line with the department's goals and objectives and timeframes. 
• Strong attention to detail when working in a fast-paced environment. 
• Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
• A demonstrated ability to lead and support staff, including remote workers, to work collaboratively in a fast-moving and dynamic environment. 
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills to cultivate and maintain productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders at a range of levels. 
• Understand the Division's work and priorities, including experience, and understanding of the broader coordination points and requirements within the Department.

Knowledge and experience
• Experience in supporting the executive and working across varied and complex work areas. 
• Experience in establishing and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships and focus on performance in delivering outcomes in your work area. 
• Excellent judgment and model high levels of integrity and discretion 
• Ability to work independently and ability to undertake management of a self-guided workload with minimal supervision. 
• Ability to triage information to provide senior executive with strategic space to consider current priorities and future opportunities. 
• Effective office management and administrative / coordination support skills including ministerial submissions, financial reporting, workforce coordination, and managing a small team.

Eligibility
Citizenship - To be eligible for employment with the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry you must be an Australian citizen.

Security Clearance - This position requires a Baseline Vetting security clearance. You will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.

Pre-employment Check - Your suitability for employment will be assessed through a pre-employment screening process. This process includes a requirement to undergo and satisfy a National Police Check, referee checks, character clearance and where required a pre-employment medical assessment, specified mandatory qualification(s) validation and a probation period of 6 months.

MSIC and ASIC Licences – If the position requires unescorted access within an aviation or maritime security zone, you will be required to obtain and maintain an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC) or Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC).
