The key duties of the position include:The Role
Defence Legal Division is seeking experienced, energetic, enthusiastic and self-motivated candidates to fill the role of an Executive Officer within the Chief Counsel's Office (within the Associate Secretary Group). Working to the Chief Counsel Defence Legal, leading a small team you will be primarily responsible for ensuring that the Chief Counsel Office functions day to day management of the office and support the Chief Counsel, plus additional work as required.

The Executive Officer will support the Chief Counsel and the Defence Legal division to deliver executive support, manage divisional business and corporate related activities. These activities include coordination of freedom of information and other requests including from corporate and ministerial coordination requests, senate estimates and committee preparation briefings and questions on notice, managing the day to day functions of the office and additional work as required. The Executive Officer will engage extensively with the corporate areas of the department and across agencies, and provides quality assurance and will ensure consistency across the division on its corporate obligations.

As part of the Defence Legal you will have the opportunity to have direct exposure to the Senior Leadership and the breadth of Departmental services, programs, policy and regulation. You will gain valuable experience in enabling services to further enhance your career and the opportunity to use your governance, human resource, financial and/or coordination expertise to support the team to deliver high quality services to the division.

While the focus of your work is within the division, you will have an outward view, and establish networks across services, other Defence Groups and corporate areas.

We are looking for emerging leaders with a blend of strategic facilitation, co-ordination and administration skills. Experience in executive, ministerial support and enabling services would be highly regarded, as well as the ability to contribute to embedding a service focused culture in to support the division to deliver on its priorities.
