The Commonwealth Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer (CNMO) makes a key contribution to a range of nursing, midwifery, health system, health workforce, legislation, regulation and education issues.
The CNMO Division (CNMOD) provides high-level policy advice to the Minister for Health and Aged Care, Assistant Minister for Health and Aged Care, and the Executive and staff within the Department of Health and Aged Care.
Working across the Department, the CNMOD provides advice as well as contributes to policy and programs from a nursing and midwifery perspective in key areas including primary care, mental health and aged care.
An exciting opportunity exists to join the team working with the CNMO as the Senior Midwifery Advisor.
This position will support the CNMO in providing specialist and strategic policy advice to the Executive, Ministers and internal and external stakeholders on complex matters in midwifery, maternity care, health workforce, health systems, regulation, legislation and education.
The key duties of the position include:Providing specialist and strategic policy advice to the CNMO, Executive, Ministers and internal and external stakeholders on complex matters in midwifery, maternity care, health workforce, health systems, regulation, legislation and education.Engaging with other divisions within the Department to provide advice and high-level analysis of policies, projects and programs and make a significant contribution to their research, planning, management, monitoring and evaluation.Engaging with the internal and external stakeholders on the integration of maternity service models of care, including Birthing on Country models.Developing and interpreting policy that requires extensive understanding and consideration of highly sensitive organisational and political issues.Representing the Department in cross-agency and inter-jurisdictional meetings, and other forums.Developing and managing key strategic relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders and networks.Leading and contributing to a range of written and planning materials including project management, policy reports, briefing papers, speeches, business cases, Cabinet submissions, Government responses and corporate documentation.Delivering outcomes against the CNMOD business plan that contributes to achieving the goals and objectives outlined in the Department of Health and Aged Care's Corporate Plan and Portfolio Budget Statements.To be eligible for employment with the Department of Health and Aged Care, applicants must be an Australian citizen at the time an offer of employment is made.An applicant's suitability for employment with Health and Aged Care will also be assessed through a variety of pre-employment check processes, such as:Satisfactory completion of a criminal history check, and where relevant, a Working with Children and Vulnerable People Check,Completion of a medical declaration and pre-employment medical (where required),Providing evidence of qualifications (where required), andObtaining and maintaining a security clearance at the required level.NotesApplicants are asked to quote reference number 24-CNMODIV-28025 to assist when making an enquiry.Employees perform their duties at one of the Department of Health and Aged Care (DoHAC) offices, in the locations specified in this advertisement.Flexibility can be negotiated with your manager to balance your personal and professional needs with the needs of your role and business area.This recruitment process is being used to fill both ongoing and non-ongoing positions.
