About the Scheme
The Industrial Chemicals Act 2019 establishes the Australian Industrial Chemicals Introduction Scheme (AICIS) to regulate the importation and manufacture (introduction) of industrial chemicals in Australia. AICIS helps protect the Australian people and the environment by assessing the risks of industrial chemicals and providing information publicly and to Commonwealth, state and territory regulators to promote their safe use.
About the Role
AICIS Principal Scientists are primarily responsible for providing scientific leadership in chemistry, toxicology and risk assessment, operating in a matrix style to deliver their responsibilities across the whole organisation. The role of the principal scientists include providing expert advise to support assessment, evaluation and inventory activities as required, horizon scanning to identify and prepare for upcoming regulatory science issues with potential to impact AICIS activities, and working in collaboration with directors to develop and maintain contemporary scientific capability among AICIS staff.

Mandatory Qualification:
To be eligible for this position applicants must hold a Postgraduate in any of the following disciplines: risk assessment and/or management, toxicology, biology, chemistry, or medical science.
