You will represent the OAIC at high levels within and outside government and build strong working relationships across the OAIC, particularly with the Commissioners and SES colleagues.
You will provide leadership, guidance and mentoring of staff within the branches to foster their professional development and career progression.
About The RoleYou will have recognised expertise in public administration and leadership, preferably in the context of transforming or overseeing complex statutory programs.
You will be accountable for a range of different legislative schemes and will need to strategically balance priorities and resources to optimise efficiency and effectiveness, achieve outcomes, and engage with risk.
Key responsibilities of the role include:
Leading the FOI Case Management, Privacy Case Management, and Intake and Triage branches, enhancing approaches to delivery while balancing competing demands on resources.Initiating and overseeing the implementation of multiple, integrated change initiatives with outcomes that significantly impact communities and stakeholders.Acting as deputy to one of the OAIC's Commissioners, supporting the Commissioners in all aspects of their work.Ensuring the OAIC's delivery of services to the Australian community to promote and uphold access to information rights.Leading the development of systems and processes to ensure teams and individuals within the Information Rights division are performing effectively.Effectively overseeing the appropriate expenditure of funds.Guiding and directing the leadership group of the Information Rights Division to develop a high performing, multidisciplinary, collaborative and innovative culture.Developing and overseeing strategies to reduce or eliminate the OAIC's backlog of casework.Leading and overseeing critical stakeholder relationships and ensuring staff engage effectively with stakeholders.Establishing and driving a strategic agenda that aligns with and supports the Commissioners' priorities.Job Specific Capabilities, Skills & ExperienceWe are seeking applications from candidates who have:
Legal qualifications or extensive experience managing in a regulatory environment.Demonstrated experience in the proportionate management of resources to achieve effective outcomes.Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to inspire and guide teams.Experience in leading agencies or significant business areas through change.Experience in managing the development and implementation of complex organisational policies.In-depth knowledge of the Freedom of Information Act 1982 and the Privacy Act 1988, or the ability to quickly acquire this knowledge.Ability to provide impartial and forthright advice to leaders.Management or public administration qualifications (e.g., MBA/MPA) are preferred.

Security RequirementsYou must be able to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 security clearance.
This role is considered an Officer under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and is required to exercise due diligence in complying with the obligations under this Act.
