The purpose of this role is to provide whole-of-government advice to the Premier and the Cabinet on a broad range of matters of Tasmanian policy with a focus on managing and coordinating intergovernmental relations.

Period of Appointment Senior Executive Appointment, Fixed Term 5 years
Hours per fortnight Up to 73.5 hours - flexible options available.
Duties The Executive Director Policy and Intergovernmental key result areas include:
Direct the development, implementation and ongoing evaluation and review of policies, programs and priorities to ensure alignment with Government's strategic policy directionProvide high-level strategic advice to the Premier, relevant portfolio Ministers and the Cabinet on significant issues affecting the Tasmanian community and issues that impact on the Government meeting its agenda.Lead the delivery of key Government priorities, including the development of whole-of-government policy, that cross portfolios and agencies, that will have critical impact on both Government policy and meeting the Department's objectives.Manage and resolve urgent and immediate priority issues for the Premier as they arise, in particular for matters of Tasmanian policy with intergovernmental, national and international significance.Direct the overall performance of the policy branch by setting expectations, performance goals and standards and measures to deliver high quality, well researched and constructed policy propositions and outcomes.Represent the Tasmanian Government at intergovernmental meetings with the Commonwealth and other states and territories to ensure that key Tasmanian Government objectives are met.Undertake sensitive and complex negotiations at senior executive levels with agencies of the Tasmanian and other governments, including, where necessary working with advisors from Ministerial offices.Work collaboratively with agencies to deliver the Premier's and the Government's priorities. Support Tasmanian Government agencies on intergovernmental relations matters including alignment with Tasmania's priorities and processes for entering into intergovernmental agreements.Provide whole-of-government advice to the Premier and the Cabinet about a broad range of issues, including intergovernmental matters of critical importance to the Government and impacts on Tasmanian Government priorities, policies and services.Lead and manage reporting staff, determine operational priorities, monitor and review performance, facilitate their ongoing professional development, to ensure staff have the knowledge, skills and support to achieve organisational objectives and maintain focus on delivering quality outcomes on time and within budget.Alongside day-to-day policy work and the setting of operational priorities, lead and encourage broader thinking and collaboration could be across DPAC and Government including making decisions about the management of the division and department including driving strategic direction, forward planning, setting priorities and guiding staff performance and development.Download the Statement of Duties and any Associated Documents To apply, please provide a copy of your CV with two referees and a one page summary outlining why you are the best person for the job and how your skills and experience align to the Senior Executive Service Capability Framework.
