Primary objective: To lead the Mining Division to effectively and efficiently regulate the environmental impacts of mining in the Northern Territory by overseeing assessment, authorisation and compliance activities under the Environment Protection Act 2019.
Key duties and responsibilities: Provide high-level leadership to the Mining Division to effectively regulate the environmental impacts of mining activities including exploration for minerals, extractives (sand and gravel) and mines, from assessment of mining proposals through production, remediation activities and closure. Lead a team of mining professionals to undertake licence assessments and decisions, monitoring for compliance and planning through to closure, including rehabilitation. Represent the Department at interdepartmental and intergovernmental forums as required. Lead the division in the development and review of policies and procedures to deliver effective and efficient regulation of mining and pursue continuous improvement in the regulation of mines in the NT. Provide advice and management of responses to policy and legislation related to mining activities in the NT. Oversee the assessment of projects for statutory compliance with NT legislation. Selection criteria: Essential: Proven ability to make decisions, exercise independent judgement and initiative and to identify and achieve performance outcomes in a context of competing expectations. Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills with proven negotiation skills and the ability to prepare complex reports and correspondence. Proven ability to critically analyse issues and clearly articulate complex concepts. Demonstrated ability to identify emerging challenges or opportunities, complex issues and problems and to work collaboratively to develop solutions to enable the achievement of objectives. Proven ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with a range of stakeholders. Desirable: Relevant tertiary qualifications in Law, Engineering, Science, or the equivalent. #J-18808-Ljbffr
