Executive Director, Catholic Social Services Australia Management (Community Services & Development)
Full time
About Catholic Social Services Australia Catholic Social Services Australia (CSSA) advocates for the Church's social service ministry. For over 65 years, we have been committed to advocating for compassionate socio-economic policies that uplift the lives of vulnerable people and a conduit for enduring social change. With around 40 member organisations providing a range of social services through many different programs Australia wide, and a Board who are entrusted with the stewardship of advancing our work, CSSA continues to work with governments and all people of goodwill to influence and shape a fairer and more inclusive society that reflects and supports the dignity, equality and participation of all people.
CSSA is seeking expressions of interest for the role of Executive Director from people who are able to contribute to the strategic leadership of CSSA by taking forward its vision and mission on behalf of the Board and its members.
About the Opportunity In collaboration with the Board of CSSA and its network members, the Executive Director's primary responsibility will be to influence social policy development and social program delivery by working with the government and political parties to ensure that Catholic social teaching is understood in relation to contemporary social issues and fairly represented in government policy discussions.
You will develop strong alliances with members and work closely with them in exchanging information and developing knowledge about the causes of family and individual disadvantage. You will coordinate, sponsor, and support research in areas of policy and social life so that CSSA is positioned to provide appropriate responses to these challenges.
You will lead a small team based at CSSA's national office in Canberra whose key focus is to develop and evaluate social and sector policy and contribute to an understanding of issues causing poverty, disadvantage, or social exclusion on behalf of the Catholic Church.
You will provide opportunities for network members to gather, reflect and share information in the areas of social and sector policy, with a strong emphasis on strengthening member understanding especially on government policy on family life, access to services, equity (including responses to disadvantage), social justice, and community relationships.
Key to this role will be your ability to develop a strategic focus with the Board and to deliver a program that achieves the Board's social policy and program objectives.
This opportunity is a full-time role and based in Canberra, although we are open to the role being 4 days per week. Some travel will be required. A driver's license and use of own motor vehicle will also be required (for which a rate per km and tolls are paid).
Key Requirements A demonstrated commitment to the mission, ethos and values of the Catholic Church and a willingness to be guided by the Catholic Social Teachings in the leadership of CSSA Demonstrated experience providing strong leadership, ideally in the social services organisation Extensive knowledge and experience of government programs' service delivery and social policy development Well-developed conceptual and strategic thinking skills and experience in developing strategic plans Sound understanding of community services, service delivery and community organisations Experience working with and being accountable to a Board.
