About the roleIn this role as a Temporary Full-Time Events Officer, you will play a crucial role in working with event organisers on their planning and execution of events. This regulatory position is integral to ensuring that events are conducted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all relevant regulations. You will be responsible for processing event and film applications, issuing permits, and providing essential support and guidance to event organisers throughout the entire process.Work type: Temporary Full time - 15 monthsClassification: Band 6 ($90,263 - $97,365 pa plus super)Key responsibilities include:Event Processing & Permits: Processing of event and film applications, and issue permits in a timely and efficient manner.Stakeholder Relations: Build and sustain strong relationships with event organisers, emergency services, internal stakeholders, and special agencies to facilitate smooth event operations.Onsite Support: Attend events as required to provide on-the-ground support to event organisers and ensure that all operational aspects are managed effectively.Promotional Opportunities: Encourage event organisers to leverage promotional opportunities through Events Geelong, enhancing the visibility and reach of their events.Risk Management: Promote and implement robust risk management practices and procedures to safeguard participants and attendees.Communication Plans: Collaborate with event organisers to draft and execute stakeholder communication plans when necessary.Event Coordination: Undertake specific tasks related to City-supported activities, including events managed by the City of Greater Geelong.Reporting: Prepare detailed reports and correspondence in alignment with Unit requirements and Council policies.Flexibility: Adapt to varying work environments and undertake out-of-hours work, including weekends and evenings, as needed.In this role, you will be expected to exercise autonomy in decision-making and manage resources effectively to achieve both individual and team objectives. You will also contribute to the Event Multi Agency Working group meetings and ensure all activities comply with Council policies and procedures.About youTo be successful in this role, you will have:Essential Experience:Demonstrated experience relevant to event management and/or conducting a regulatory role issuing permits.Demonstrated knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety practices and risk management principles in relation to activities in open public spaces.Experience in developing and maintaining positive relationships with a broad range of stakeholders.Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.Excellent organisational and time management skills, ability to prioritise workload and manage competing demands.The ability to solve problems as they arise and know when to escalate to leadership as required.Ability to work effectively in a team and be flexible/responsive to business needs.Adopt a continuous improvement mindset with a willingness to adapt to changes in processes and regulation.Flexibility to undertake out of hours work, including weekends and evenings.Desirable:Tertiary qualification in event management or similar field.Previous experience in a Local Government context.Construction Induction training – White Card.A valid employee Working with Children Check.Qualifications:Current Victorian Driver's Licence.If this sounds like the role for you, then click apply now!Child Safety ResponsibilitiesWe are committed to being a child-safe organisation and have zero-tolerance for child abuse.
