UGL's utilities business provides essential design & construction services for critical infrastructure across the power sectors. Ranging from transmission lines, switchyards, substations through to wastewater treatment plants.
Our offerings include design, construct, commission, operate and maintain across the following capabilities: Transmission lines, Switchyards, Substations and Electrical distribution.
Utilities safely leads and delivers design & construct projects across Australia and executes short and long-term contracts either through self-performance or joint ventures. Our works span design, structural, civil, electrical and commissioning.
The role As the Estimator within UGL's Utilities Division, you can be based in either our Brisbane or Sydney office. Your focus will be substations and you will be responsible for providing estimating expertise for current tenders and proposals ensuring they are accurate and timely. You will also be responsible for building estimates across a wide range of tenders, utilising UGL's estimating software, CATS.
Key responsibilities of this role include: First principles estimating providing accurate cost estimates for labour, plant & equipment, materials and subcontractor pricing Collaborate with internal technical experts to gather information in preparation for tenders Responsible for the estimate lifecycle i.e. pricing structure establishment, pricing development, maturing the estimate, estimate finalisation and checks and conversion of estimate into work breakdown structure (WBS). Complete final submission for presentation to the client Consult with operational areas to determine the accuracy of tenders Ensure compliance is adhered to for all record-keeping associated with the tenders Recommend and update procedures and programs to improve the estimating function Provide budget breakup advice to our current projects Maintain regular contact with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure pricing and product availability are up to date and accurate About you This role will suit an Estimator ideally with electrical experience at transmission voltage level. You will need to have keen eye for detail, a focus on accuracy, and the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders. Other requirements that will see you succeed include:
A degree or diploma in engineering will be desirable or a relevant trade certificate with experience At least five years of experience in project related disciplines will be desirable Experience in establishing estimates for power utilities Experience with estimating substations, switchyards and transmission lines at transmission voltage range of 66kV to 500kV Experience with Expert Estimation, CCS or CATS are desirable Willingness to learn and use CATS as UGL uses this software only Strong negotiation and influencing skills with the ability to establish effective working relationships Customer focused, team oriented, accountable and results driven The ability to adapt, learn quickly and apply new skills and knowledge What we offer Diverse opportunities to grow, back yourself and achieve Flexible working arrangements Ongoing training for career progression A competitive remuneration package with salary continuance insurance, employee assistance program for employees and their families, AIA Vitality wellness program and discounts on private health Insurance.
