Fixed term (12 months) full time, 76 hours per fortnight located in Esperance. We have an exciting opportunity for a Community Engagement Officer to join the headspace team! The position is full time, working Monday to Friday.
About the Opportunity  The Community Engagement Officer is based at headspace Esperance and provides service to young people and the community via an asset-based community development approach and through the collaborative work with local consortium members, young people, communities and stakeholders via Community Awareness and Engagement and the Youth Advisory Group. 
The Community Engagement Officer leads the increase of community awareness mental health through psychoeducation on issues among young people, and family and friends facilitate youth and, where relevant, family participation, organise and deliver health promotion activities, projects, and community events to engage identified target populations. 
Requirements of the Role:  Raise awareness and engagement of headspace Esperance through events, workshops, trainings, marketing, and ad hoc activities, via in-reach, outreach, and centre-based activities.  Guide and support the Youth Advisory Group and ensure the voice of young people is always present in every area of headspace Esperance.  Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of a culturally and contextually appropriate Community Awareness Plan in which young people are the primary audience.  Engage in regular liaison with local consortium members and other stakeholders in the delivery and coordination of youth and community activities.  Design and coordinate events for target groups to increase the profile of headspace Esperance and in collaboration with key stakeholders and deliver key messages around mental health literacy, reducing stigma, anti-discrimination, and early help seeking.  Manage and maintain the headspace Esperance website and social media platforms to develop opportunities for youth engagement and service promotion.  Produce documents and promotional material of a professional standard that comply with branding policy, suitable for external communication to a variety of target audiences.  Support the planning, development, and delivery of mental health literacy education sessions for young people, parents, families and friends, sector, and community.  About you: Demonstrates experience working with and engaging young people with mental health, alcohol and other drug, and other social issues.  Demonstrates experience coordinating and facilitating youth programs, events, or activities within a community setting.  Experience in the development of strong, positive working collaborations with stakeholders  Demonstrates ability to develop, implement and evaluate community awareness programs.  Ability to problem solve and work creatively with young people.  Demonstrates ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team.  Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, government policies and strategic directions in relation to mental health and alcohol and other drug disorders, particularly as it relates to young people.  Works to develop additional knowledge and skills.  Highly developed verbal and written communication skills  Uses various styles of communication to ensure that information being delivered is tailored to the audience.  Ensures that communication is factual, accurate and presented in a clear and concise manner.  Conversant with relevant community based mental health terminology.  Demonstrates an understanding of organisational policies and processes and implements them appropriately.  Demonstrated understanding of the challenges and experiences of young people from diverse backgrounds including young people who are culturally and linguistically diverse and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders  Broad knowledge of the range of services available to young people in the local government, health, education, employment, and youth sectors  Competence regarding information technology, software packages and willingness to be trained and implement the headspace data collection tool.  Tertiary level qualifications in relevant clinical discipline including psychology, mental health, mental health nursing, social/ behavioural science, social work, youth work, community services or equivalent (an exemption to this essential requirement may apply to applicants who have demonstrated equivalent knowledge of and experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people or who are Aboriginal)  Experience in the Not for Profit and/or public health sector  Experience in a Youth Organisation, coordinating programs, education sessions and youth participation  Appointments will be subject to Australian residency/visa, satisfactory National Police check (within 3 months), Working With Children card, Current C or A class driver's license, First Aid Certificate, and suitable work referees.
