Location ProfileHoppers Crossing Secondary College opened in 1984 and is a single campus, co-educational college with an enrolment of approximately 1,500 students. Situated in an urban growth corridor, approximately 20 minutes west of Melbourne, we welcome students from Years 7 to 12, from Hoppers Crossing and the surrounding district.

RoleThis position has been established with the express purpose of supporting the appropriate personnel in the EAL Program. Under the direction of the Principal (through the Business Manager, Assistant Principals and the EAL Co-ordinator) the position involves providing support to students and staff involved in the EAL Program.
A substantial amount of knowledge and skills required of a MEA will be gained through ongoing professional learning programs. The skills a person would normally bring to this position would be:
Basic numeracy and literacySound written and verbal communication skillsBasic information Technology skillsAn aptitude for working with school aged studentsTeam based skillsIdeally fluent in one or more of the following languages: Korean/Chin Haka, Arabic, Persian, SamoanThis person should also have the capacity to be flexible, adaptable and willing to learn in a work environment where the day-to-day priorities and tasks may vary considerably.
Responsibilities· Assist in the preparation of student resources and equipment.
· Produce basic curriculum support resources.
· Assist students on an individual or group basis in specific learning areas (under teacher supervision).
· Assist and support the implementation of instructional programs in the ESL area.
· Assist with the communication between students and teachers, parent and teachers particularly the interpretation of instructions.
· Observe students and draw them to the attention of the teacher where necessary.
· Provide basic physical and emotional care for students.
· Participate in team meetings.
· Participate in the monitoring and evaluation of programs and evaluation of individual student's involvement and achievement.
· Assist with the liaison and communication between parents, teachers, other staff and members of the wider School community.
· Undertake first aid duties, provided that the officer agrees and has appropriate current qualifications (an additional allowance should be paid for this responsibility).
· Assist with communication between teachers and non-English speaking parents/students (although not requiring a knowledge of particular languages other than English). Ideally fluent in one or more of the following languages: Korean/Chin Haka, Arabic, Persian, Samoan.
· Where necessary assist in limited office duties and, when required, possible.
· Participate in the performance review process.
· Other duties as directed.
