A new College in Hawdon Street will be completed and ready for occupation in 2022.
A Rural Annex is also an integral component of the College and has been created to serve the needs of the students requiring more supports than are available in the mainstream settings.Greater Shepparton City Council (GSCC), located 180 kilometres north of Melbourne, with a population of 66,000, is the fifth-largest city in regional Victoria and consists of Shepparton City, Mooroopna and Tatura.
The area is a culturally and linguistically diverse community with almost one quarter of the population born overseas, including recent arrivals and refugees from Africa and the Middle East.
It has Victoria's largest concentration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people outside of Melbourne.
There are over 6,000 businesses and a workforce of 30,000.The establishment of the new Secondary College in Shepparton is the initial phase of the Shepparton Education Plan, which aims to improve educational outcomes for P-12 and beyond.
The plan will improve transitions, pathways and opportunities for students through improving teacher capacity, resources and a contemporary school infrastructure.
The Shepparton Education Plan and the creation of a revitalised secondary school model is the outcome of longer-term work by schools and consultation with the community to collaboratively improve learning opportunities, community engagement and educational outcomes.The development of the new Secondary College in Shepparton provides exciting opportunities for the successful applicant to contribute to the transformation of secondary curriculum, pedagogy and student connection and to build community participation and ownership of the new school.On completion, the school will include:Approximately 2500 students arranged in nine houses of 300 year 7-12 students.New school facilities with contemporary shared teaching and learning spaces and specialist areas.Hubs for specialist subject delivery, including a STEM Enterprise Centre of Excellence, and student wellbeing.This is a significant career opportunity to reframe the trajectory of a community through prioritising the education of its young people with a focus on creating high quality engagement, pedagogy and facilities.The transformational change involved in the development of the new Secondary College will require an applicant with skills that support a high level of engagement and consultation with students, staff, parents and the broader community as the culture, learning focus and organisation of the campus are developed, implemented and refined.Selection CriteriaDemonstrated experience and skills in coordinating the development of culturally specific programs, events and activities.Demonstrated capacity to lead and coordinate a team.Demonstrated high level oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, school staff and external parties.Demonstrated ability to liaise and engage with the Koorie Educators, students, families and develop strong working relationships.Demonstrated capacity to provide advice and support to management in respect to the work area.Demonstrated experience in the development and implementation of cultural inclusion strategies.RoleThe Koorie Education Team Leader will lead the team of Koorie Educators within the College (two per Neighbourhood).
The role includes supporting the development, coordination and implementation of the GSSC Aboriginal Inclusion Plan.
Work hours are 8:30am - 4:30pm; Monday to Friday.ResponsibilitiesWork with the Principal team to provide leadership and modelling of college values across the college.Work with the Principal team to include Aboriginal perspectives in curriculum, planning and college operations.Attend and actively contribute to Wellbeing & Inclusion Leadership meetings and all other relevant college meetings and events including Cultural Inclusion Working Group meetings, Kaiela Dhungala First Peoples Curriculum meetings.Contribute to professional learning at the college.Conduct performance reviews of a number of staff.Other duties as directed by the Principal.Team facilitation responsibilities:Plan and facilitate regular team meetings focused on discussion and evaluation of Koorie student wellbeing and engagement in learning.Schedule meetings, develop meeting agenda and keep team on task.Regularly provide a summary of meetings to school leadership.Manage the allocated budget.Who May ApplyIndividuals with the aptitude, experience and/or qualifications to fulfill the specific requirements of the position.Child Safe StandardsVictorian government schools are child safe environments.
