Location ProfileMelton South Primary School (MSPS) was established in 1923 and is situated in the Shire of Melton approximately 35km west of Melbourne. The school caters for a well-established residential neighbourhood. The original rural school is now the administration area of the present school. Development of new housing estates has resulted in significant enrolment increases.
In 2024 there are 949 students enrolled with 1 Principal, 3 Assistant Principals, 2 Teaching and Learning Coaches, 65 Generalist Teachers, 1 Literacy Intervention teacher, Tutors, 33 Educational Support staff, 1 Student Counsellor, 1 Social worker and 2 Speech Pathologists. There are 43 classes, all of which were single year level classes.
AT MSPS we administer, collate and analyse student data to inform teaching and learning as well as Intervention programs. We use High Impact Teaching Strategies including setting goals, structured lessons, explicit teaching, collaborative learning, multiple exposures with an ongoing focus on differentiated teaching supported by an external consultant. We constantly strive to adopt best practice by keeping informed of new initiatives based on educational theory and research.
The school offers a range of well-resourced specialist subjects including French, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Mathematics), Visual Arts, ICT (Information Communication Technology) and Physical Education. ICT is utilised to enhance teaching and learning programs with a school funded netbook program for Prep to Year 6.

School holiday attendance normally not required. Any additional required work will be negotiated with the Principal under a leave purchase arrangement.
Range 3 is distinguished by the introduction of management responsibility and accountability for the delivery of professional support services. The role will usually impact beyond the work area or professional field. It seeks to gain cooperation of other staff members or members of the school community to achieve specific objectives, such as in school administration, operations or educational programs.
Direction on targets and goals is provided but the position will have some degree of latitude in determining how they are achieved. This latitude will generally be limited by standard procedures and school policy. Deviation from standard procedures and school policy will require guidance and direction from senior management.
The provision of business management responsibilities becomes a feature at range 3. Management of staff to achieve the expected outcomes is a key responsibility. Staff management issues will be resolved with minimal reference to senior management, although guidance will be required in more complex cases. Senior management will be provided with timely reports and advice, although this will generally be confined to matters relating to the immediate work area, service provision or educational program and is unlikely to impact substantially on whole of school operations.
This is the minimum range for positions that carry a mandatory qualification requirement of not less than four years. Professional student support positions become a feature at range 3 (e.g. therapists, psychologists) where standard professional services are delivered. Professional support and guidance will be close at hand and deviation from standard procedures and school policy will require guidance and direction from senior management.
An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee's position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.
Responsibilities Daily Organiser Cover classes on a day-to-day basis. This includes but is not limited to:
Monitor the staff absence phone and emails regarding daily org.Arrange alternative arrangements for classes that are unable to be covered by CRTs.Meet, greet and induct relief staff upon arrival each day.Ensure all casual staff have required qualifications and licences.Liaise with IT staff on a needs basis to ensure relief staff have the I.T support needed.Liaise with HR Manager/Finance staff for staff absence records and relief staff invoices.Liaise with teachers who organise alternative timetabled programs eg; excursions, incursions, camps etc.Create custom classes on Compass when needed for events and camps.Maintain accurate records of staff absence, replacement classes and CRTs for audit and payment purposes.Engage Casual Relief Teachers through approved agencies or the local casual staffing pool (including induction and monitoring their performance).Develop and maintain resources to support CRTs in their role (CRT handbook; ICT resources etc).Work with the Business Manager to maintain CRT records and employment documentation.Utilise Compass/email to communicate with staff regarding daily organisation.Provide support to school events which require alterations to normal daily operations.Be present in the general office daily between 8.00am and 9.30am to meet with CRTs and manage schedule, equipment and key distribution prior to the start of the school day.Ensure all relief staff have the required accreditation.Other duties that may be required by the principal staff and the Business Manager.Communications Inform the community of events and activities through social media, newsletters and Compass.Distribute Compass permission notes to classes as required.Assist with event/excursion planning and resource collection as required.Executive Assistant Support the principal, assistant principals and the business manager with administrative support as required.As an education support staff member, the range of duties may be expanded in the future in accordance with the ES Level 1, Range 3 general duties.Who May ApplyIndividuals with the aptitude, experience and/or qualifications to fulfill the specific requirements of the position.
