Role of Language AssistantLanguage Assistants need to be flexible, adaptable, and willing to learn.
Below are the activities involved:
Work with individual or small groups of students undertaking language learning activities.Provide feedback to students on correct language usage.Model correct language usage (e.g., pronunciation and idiom).Team-teach or provide targeted support to small groups or individuals.Assist the delivery of face-to-face or online cultural activities.Contribute to professional development sessions for language teachers.Participate in activities that promote the target language.Provide native speaker expertise to teachers on use of the language.Contribute to curriculum planning and resource development.Conduct background research for the preparation of language teaching materials.ResponsibilitiesLanguage assistants are supported by school and departmental staff, including principals and language teachers.
Participate in classes and activities as determined in consultation with their school's coordinator.Provide information and support for the delivery of their schools' languages program.Assist with the development of resources to support the delivery of their school's language programs.Who May ApplyHold a bachelor's degree (majoring in the relevant target language) and/or possess mother tongue proficiency in the relevant target language.Have a level of English proficiency equivalent to an IELTS score of no less than 6.Hold a valid Working with Children Check at the commencement of their role.Be prepared to work a minimum of 7.6 hours daily for four days per week.EEO and OHS CommitmentThe Department of Education is committed to equal opportunity, diversity, and inclusion for all.
