Role of Language AssistantLanguage Assistants need to be flexible, adaptable and willing to learn in a work environment where the day-to-day priorities and tasks may vary considerably. Below outlines some of the activities in which you may be involved:
ResponsibilitiesLanguage assistants are supported by key school and departmental staff, including school principals, language assistant coordinators, language teachers, school business managers and the Department.
Participate in classes and activities as determined in consultation with their school's language assistant coordinatorParticipate in planning activities with their school's language teacher(s) or languages facultyProvide information and support for the delivery of their schools' languages programAssist with the development of resources, including teacher professional learning, to support the delivery of their school's language programs.Who May ApplyIndividuals with the aptitude, experience and/or qualifications to fulfill the specific requirements of the position:
Hold a bachelor's degree (majoring in the relevant target language) and/or possess mother tongue proficiency in the relevant target languageHave a level of English proficiency equivalent to an IELTS score of no less than 6Hold a valid Working with Children Check at the commencement of their roleBe prepared to work a minimum of 7.6 hours daily for four days per week.Conditions of EmploymentAll staff employed by the Department and schools have access to a broad range of employment conditions and working arrangements.Appointment of successful applicants will be made subject to a satisfactory pre-employment conditions check.A probationary period may apply during the first year of employment and induction and support programs provided.Detailed information on all terms and conditions of employment is available on the Department's Human Resources website at http://www.education.vic.gov.au/hrweb/Pages/default.aspx
