The Yawardani Jan-ga Project, based in Broome with additional hubs in Derby and Halls Creek, is an Aboriginal-led initiative dedicated to supporting the wellbeing of Aboriginal children and young people. 'Yawardani Jan-ga,' which means 'horses helping' in the Yawuru language, utilizes the therapeutic power of horses through innovative experiential learning to help heal trauma, enhance social and emotional wellbeing, nurture leadership, and foster positive relationships. The program is focused on tackling one of the most significant health crises Australia is facing. By providing culturally secure mental health services run by Aboriginal people for Aboriginal young people. Our Equine-Assisted Learning sessions, inspired by methods from Australia's Equine Psychotherapy Institute, also draw upon the rich pastoral heritage of the Kimberley region. The Role

The EAL Practitioner forms an integral part of the Yawardani Jan-ga team and Ngangk Yira Institute For Change. The role provides administration and data management tasks around the research components and service delivery of the program. You will assist in the delivery of the Equine Assisted Learning program through: Facilitate EAL sessions in accordance with program requirements which includes individual, paired and group sessions. Communicate regularly and effectively with participants, families, and local service providers. Maintenance of participant records and files in a confidential manner. General stable duties and horse-care tasks, ensuring animal ethics are at the forefront of your day-to-day duties.

What you'll bring to this role

Must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent (50 (d) of the Equal Employment Opportunity Act 1984). Completion of the Aboriginal Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) Program Foundation Training (training to complete this will be provided to the successful candidate). Ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality. Ability to engage and work with diverse clients, including families, children, young people, high-risk individuals, and leaders. Current Working with Children Check.
