Townsville Public Health Unit
Townsville Townsville Hospital and Health Service are seeking an experienced Epidemiologist - Senior to join the highly experienced team at Townsville Public Health Unit in a permanent full-time role. Townsville Hospital and Health Service is the public healthcare provider for more than 250,000 people across a geographic area of 150,000km 2 , delivering a comprehensive range of services across 21 facilities, from primary care in regional locations to highly specialised care at the main hospital.
We are planning and innovating for the future, advancing healthcare through impactful research, training tomorrow's health sector workforce. Eligible Health Workers who move to Queensland from interstate and international jurisdictions to take up permanent employment may receive up to $20,000 in incentive payments
under the  Queensland Health Attraction Incentive Scheme ( https://www.careers.health.qld.gov.au/working-for-us/workforce-attraction-incentive-scheme )
The opportunity 
The primary responsibility is the provision of epidemiological services to the public health unit and THHS, providing assessment and interpretation of data and expert advice on health surveillance by:
Undertaking routine chronic and communicable disease epidemiology.Initiating, designing, conducting, and reporting on complex population health epidemiology, including investigations of disease clusters, with a high degree of independenceEvaluation of health interventions and projects,Enabling evidence-based public health practice.Work collegially and closely with the data management team to provide excellence in health surveillance. Generous remuneration package value up to $152,775 p.a. comprising:
Salary rates between $4769.60 - $5132.40 (HP4)Annual leave loading + leave12.75% employer superannuation contributionProfessional Development allowance + leaveOther employment benefits may include: salary sacrificing options ( https://www.health.qld.gov.au/employment/conditions/salary/sacrifice ) , locality allowances, employee wellness and assistance programs and access to corporate discounts Townsville Public Health Unit
The Townsville Public Health Unit coordinates and supports national, statewide and local public health responses, as well as undertaking health surveillance and disease-control initiatives. The unit focuses on the health and wellbeing of populations, as opposed to individuals, with key objectives being protecting public health and preventing disease and illness.
Role requirements The successful applicant must hold a tertiary degree (or equivalent) qualification in:Science or Health Science (major in Epidemiology or Biostatistics) orBachelor of Public Health (major in Epidemiology) orDesirable qualifications: To meet the competencies required for this position, it is highly desirable that applicants have a masters or doctorate degree in epidemiology or biostatistics related to health, or equivalent.Note: For establishment management purposes under Schedule 2 of the Health Practitioner Enterprise Agreement (2015) this position is deemed to be of the discipline Epidemiologist.Drivers Licence: This position may require the incumbent to operate a 'C' Class Drivers Licence. An appropriate licence endorsement to operate this type of vehicle is required. Proof of this endorsement must be provided before commencement of duty.
