ABOUT THE SCHOOLThe School of Health Sciences offers an extensive range of quality accredited undergraduate and postgraduate programs designed to engage students from learning opportunities in class through to professional workplace experience. Our Occupational Therapy program is distinctive for its teaching culture, delivery of quality contemporary education and its pastoral care mission. Our courses are delivered by experienced clinicians and academics ensuring materials and content are evidence based, contemporary and future focused.
POSITIONAn academic sessional makes a substantial contribution to the teaching program, particularly at the undergraduate level. The position requires preparation and coordination of tutorials and workshops, consultation with students, assessment marking and attendance at meetings as required by the Course Coordinator/Program Coordinator. The primary purpose of an academic sessional is to successfully run and manage their assigned tutorials or workshops within the discipline area.
The School seeks expressions of interest from experienced Academics or Clinicians who have a passion for teaching. Teaching opportunities are available on a sessional basis in the Bachelor of Occupational Therapy Program.
We are looking for academic sessional staff with subject matter expertise in one or more of the following occupational therapy practice areas:
Inpatient or Community Rehabilitation (Physical)Aged CareAcute Inpatient Physical (e.g., Medical/ Neurology/ Orthopaedics/ Cancer/ Hand Therapy)Mental HealthDisability Services (e.g., NDIS)Paediatrics/ School SystemKEY RESPONSIBILITIESConduct lectures/theoretical tutorials and/or workshops in consultation with the Discipline Lead. This includes preparing a brief lesson plan in line with the weekly learning objectives and facilitating informed group discussions relating to the content.Consultation with students in relation to readings, weekly topics and assessment.Marking and providing feedback relating to assessment activities as set out by the Course Coordinator/Program Coordinator.Attendance at meetings as required by the Course Coordinator/Program Coordinator.Manage short-term extension requests in line with University policy.Other duties as identified by the line manager or the National Deputy Head of School.Comply with policies and procedures in all aspects of their work and conduct.ABOUT YOUBachelor of Occupational TherapyRegistered with AHPRA as an Occupational Therapist. Postgraduate qualifications in occupational therapy or education is desirable.Knowledge and understanding of current scholarship and/or professional practice in the relevant discipline.Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.Knowledge of, and experience in adhering to workplace policies and procedures in the areas of work health safety, equity, diversity and promoting a respectful workplace culture.Ability to deliver quality learning and teaching practices in multiple modes including online delivery.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to foster high levels of collegiality and ability to empathise with students.Proven ability to assess priority of tasks, manage workload and meet deadlines, in a busy education environment.Previous experience working in the tertiary education sector is desirable.HOW TO APPLYIf this sounds like you, please email a cover letter and your CV.
