This unique role is responsible for the monitoring, evaluation and reporting of environmental data on the water quality of the Central Coast beaches, lagoons and waterways and this could be your chance to have a leading position in ensuring data is accurately reported.Coordinate highly technical water auditsUndertake recreational water quality monitoring and reporting (Beachwatch)Work/Life Balance with flexible/hybrid working arrangements availableTemporary term contract for up to 12 monthsAbout the roleAs the Environmental Monitoring Officer you will be responsible for the management of the Central Coast Council environmental monitoring (both terrestrial and aquatic) to help evaluate the performance of our environmental programs and identify key strategic priorities.This position is required to provide quality customer service and create value for the community.To be successful in this role, you will have:a degree qualification in Ecology, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science or a related field or demonstrated solid contemporary experience in a similar role together with ongoing professional developmentcurrent Class C Drivers Licenceextensive experience in Coastal, Estuarine or Catchment Management with specific focus on recreational and ecological water quality investigations (microbial contamination, microbial source tracking, water and sediment chemistry, pollutant load evaluation, diffuse/point source and event-based assessment) leading to catchment prioritisation, planning and remedial actiondemonstrated practical experience in water and sediment sampling including but not limited to equipment maintenance and calibration, aseptic sampling techniques, sample processing, data entry and collation, data QA/QC, statistical data analysis and reportingstrong communication skills with the ability to translate complex information into an accessible form for community and other stakeholdersexceptional project management skills to manage multiple complex technical projects with a high degree of technical competency and limited supervisionproven ability to assess and interpret information to formulate recommendations and provide specialist advice to enable the organisation to achieve quality outcomesdemonstrated ability to build strong, credible relationships and influence, persuade or negotiate outcomes that add value to the organisation.Other important informationThe salary range for this position ranges between $85,850.60 to $103,028.64 (dependent on skills and experience) plus 11.5% superannuationThis role will be able to access a 9 day fortnight.We are able to offer hybrid and flexible working conditions for this role - 2 days from home and 3 days onsite.This role is located at the Wyong Administration Building.Successful candidates will be required to be vaccinated for tetanus.A leaseback vehicle is provided in this role for official duties and private use.Council may create an eligibility list from this recruitment process and may utilise this eligibility list to fill other temporary vacancies.Central Coast Council is committed to the goals of equal opportunity employment.
