Salary: $1,952 per week (excluding superannuation)
Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week
Are you a skilled Environmental Health Officer looking for a dynamic opportunity to make a positive impact in the community?
Wollondilly Shire Council is seeking a motivated professional to join their Environmental Health Team on a temporary 6-month contract.

About the RoleAs an Environmental Health Officer, you'll play a vital role in ensuring the health and safety of the Wollondilly community.
Reporting to the Team Leader Environmental Health, you'll handle regulatory functions, conduct inspections, and support environmental and public health initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:Investigate complaints and assess applications under key legislation, including the Local Government Act, Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, and Public Health Act.Conduct inspections to ensure compliance with the Food Act and NSW Food Handling Standards.Audit sewage management systems to protect water quality and community health.Monitor underground petroleum storage systems (UPSS) and other regulated activities.Perform inspections of public swimming pools, mortuaries, skin penetration facilities, and cooling towers.Support and mentor Trainee Environmental Health Officers.Promote community education on rights, obligations, and public health standards. Key Challenges:Managing high workloads in a dynamic environment while meeting public health and regulatory standards.Balancing compliance with customer expectations and providing educational support to the community. Selection Criteria:Essential Qualifications and Skills: Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Health or a relevant discipline.Minimum 4 years' experience in public health, regulatory activities, and enforcement processes.Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Food Act, Public Health Act, and Local Government Act.Experience in auditing food premises, assessing noise/odour complaints, and investigating public health concerns.Excellent problem-solving, communication, and customer service skills.Current Class C Driver's Licence.Desirable Experience: Experience in illegal dumping investigations.Knowledge of on-site sewage management systems.Participation in working groups such as Regional Food and Public Health Units.
